How old are your kids? We have 2.5 yo twins and a third coming in August. Need a minivan, but refuse to get one. We are going with a 2009 Honda Pilot. I just went through the same thing last fall..Wanted the Volvo, DH said No (he is 6'4") not enough head room etc..We have three kids 7-5-3 and we go back and forth between CT & NY..I crawled through; test drove & kicked the tires with the kids & their seats. I ended up getting the Honda Odyssey, I loved the Volvo but I couldn't fit the kids plus what ever equipment the kids needed like car seats, skis, bikes, beach chairs etc. After driving the Honda Odyssey for 7 plus months, I have to say I love it there is plenty of room and the kids have their own space and DON'T FIGHT!! Plus I officially got my first speeding ticket in it and didn’t think I was going that fast.. l.o.l. Good luck I know what you’re going through and it's not any fun.. [ Reply | More ]

OK, except for Collegiate since it's a boys' school. Spence playdate was huge. Picked up 15 or more girls. Shy girls may not do well. Reputation is they want alpha girls. Chapin picked up about a dozen girls but they separated girls into pairs which might work for your shy dd. They warmed the girls up before the pickup. Very gentle. Brearley was like Spence but with about 12 girls or so, no warm up. Trinity was only 2 kids at a time (unless you are connected and get a private one) - don't bother too much if not connected. Dalton had 4 kids at a time (2 girls, 2 boys) which was nice, I thought. Don't know about HM (wasn't interested in the Bronx schools). [ Reply | More ]

Not for a kid. There is parent interview which is like a job interview. Bring the father, of course. Don't sound entitled or brag (unless they prompt you) - some actually made a note about reading ability (asked about if dc could). many people whoo go public are so pleased with it that they don't switch, especially if they get a good MS. those who are set on going private later, usually do. btw, my parents sent my sibs and I to ps87 way back when I went to brearley, and my 2 brothers went to trinity.
