[ - ] DH and I have been married for 7 years. We grew up next door to each other and have known each other our entire lives - we started dating when I was 22 and married when I was 24. We have a 6yo son and a 2yo son and I am currently 5months pregnant with our soon to be dd. Ever since dh and I started dating, a couple of my "good friends" started acting a bit odd, saying that I changed, leaving me out of things - after we married and had the boys things didn't change all that much, though they seemed to be accepting of things. Now that I am pregnant with dd they have just gotten vicious. I just can't understand women! I really don't get the problem and I wish we could repair the friendship, but I just don't know. Anyone else have this experience once you and dh got together and/or started having kids? 8 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

honestly, i have been trying to figure it out and i have been trying to talk to them about it for years - i was never in a real relationship until dh and i started dating and things got serious fast bc we knew each other for so long - i guess i was always the go-to friend bc i didn't have a bf so they knew i'd always be around to help them out or do things with them. i guess i've just been questioning our friendships - if they were just using me to pass time or if this is more a jealousy thing since two of them aren't married and the other has been married for 6 years but no kids - i even talked to dh about it wondering if i was just paranoid and he noticed as well [ Reply | More ]

yes, that is too bad. but I also think that the use of the erb and sb in nyc has been corrupted with prepping and testers who give too many breaks to the kids for the scores to be all that meaningful. [ Reply | More ]

I don't know how one can prep for SB/ERB. I think it's far more difficult to prep... or do you mean people hiring private psychologists?? I dont' know. I bet vast majority of people don't prep, though. [ Reply | More ]

no. many buy educational games/toys that replicate the tasks on these tests. many preschools that are more "academic" focus on skills training that practice skills found on these, and one TT preschool even offers an erb prep course after school. additionally, many top preschools introduce the tester to parents who will describe the test skills and suggest games etc to work on. not to mention the OTs who work with kids specifically to increase these skills. finally, the tester may be in a school for years, and is not unbiased. then you have the sb testers who can be handpicked based on their reputation for turning out high scorers. many complained about olsat testers because the test must be administered in a more objective manner. it was not all warm and fuzzy. Is it a bad thing if dcs are mostly Chinese? I think its good for white kids to learn how to be a minority. The rest of us live with that every day of our lives. I mean, if those of us Asian dcs only picked schools where we were in the majority, we'd be pretty limited. Having your dc be in the majority, racially, is a pretty racist way to choose a school.
