Is it ever okay to leave your kid with your doorman while he's working? For how long? What if your nanny did it? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I wouldn't be ok with either scenario, but that said, even my nanny would be rebuffed by our doormen [ Reply | More ]

do you know and trust the doorman? was there a good reason why she had to? Was it for more than 2 minutes? [ Reply | More ]

absolutely not acceptable. I was trying to give her the benefit of the doubt, like she fell and badly cut herself and didn't want to scare the kids... How hard is it for her to bring ds to the store? [ Reply | More ]

friend is torn up about this. to be honest, i've seen her nanny a few times w/out the kids (i live in the bldg next door), but for some reason it didn't register to me that it was odd and when she told me what the doorman told her, it suddenly dawned on me that those times were during times she was supposed to be working. once i saw her at rite aid. but nanny is fine every other way. kids seem to like her, friend says. am surprised she's even balking. i would be uncomfortable w/ situation. doorman was worried he'd get in trouble w/ bldg management for talking to friend, but didn't want to get in trouble if the kids got hurt while playing in the lobby either. is there anyway that she doesn't know this is unacceptable? I think that it is really weird, and honestly who knows if this is indicative of other problems. [ Reply | More ]

she does know it's an issue. i think she's worried about difficulties of finding new nanny. she has a demanding job and so does her dh, who works even longer hours. he seems hesitant, too. [ Reply | More ]

this is the person that is for all intents and purposes raising their ds, if there is any question about how she is doing it, they need to get someone else, even if it is inconvenient. [ Reply | More ]

and the nanny seems to genuinely like the kids, from what i've seen. though i agree this is a serious lapse. [ Reply | More ]

Not every building has unionized door staff. The Trump Buildings on the West Side aren't unionized. [ Reply | More ]

depends. a good friend of mine is a door man of a building i used to live in. i'd leave dd with him. any other circumstance, no. unless it's just to run to the curb or upstairs for a minute. maybe. [ Reply | More ]

with my friend, as long as was cool with him. with another doorman, I'm not sure. i'd have to know the person relatively well and it would only be for a couple minutes at most. [ Reply | More ]

Just long enough for me to grab the mail or bring in a bag from the car. A few minutes at most. [ Reply | More ]

I have a nine yo who loves to read. I have left her in the lobby with a book to run an aerrand or two for up to 20 minutes (she was home sick, etc) with our curent doorman. I had left my 8 and 5 yo with our old (long term) doorman for about 5-10 minutes. He is a father of 3 and I've actually had his dd in our house for "playdates" when he needed to bring her to work.
