Basically, if you are not a sib and you get 95 or 96, you get a district G&T that you dislike and will turn down if you have a gen ed that is not terrible or a magnet school. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

This is weird bec I think kids who got above 95 in the past almost always got a seat at a district G&T they liked. Not sure what has changed. [ Reply | More ]

maybe more preppable, but less sensitive to tester. I think many kids get scores above their actual intellectual level due to overly enthusiastic and prompting testers. [ Reply | More ]

BSRA was available and people got a hold of the test. And I keep reading KTSS was very similar to olsat. [ Reply | More ]

yes, that is too bad. but I also think that the use of the erb and sb in nyc has been corrupted with prepping and testers who give too many breaks to the kids for the scores to be all that meaningful. [ Reply | More ]

I don't know how one can prep for SB/ERB. I think it's far more difficult to prep... or do you mean people hiring private psychologists?? I dont' know. I bet vast majority of people don't prep, though. [ Reply | More ]

no. many buy educational games/toys that replicate the tasks on these tests. many preschools that are more "academic" focus on skills training that practice skills found on these, and one TT preschool even offers an erb prep course after school. additionally, many top preschools introduce the tester to parents who will describe the test skills and suggest games etc to work on. not to mention the OTs who work with kids specifically to increase these skills. finally, the tester may be in a school for years, and is not unbiased. then you have the sb testers who can be handpicked based on their reputation for turning out high scorers. many complained about olsat testers because the test must be administered in a more objective manner. it was not all warm and fuzzy. I can't believe people actually do this. If they get their kids in based on these prepping, how can their kids compete with other kids who got 99 w/o any prep whatsoever? Why would anyone do that? [ Reply | More ]

it is the way in nyc. why do you think so many kids have tutors? on ADD meds, etc? it is really too bad, and it starts very very early [ Reply | More ]
