[ - ] 2 yo DS was a real nightmare on a flight recently. His first time flying in his own seat and he had a meltdown any time the fasten seatbelts sign went on. "Hold me Mommy please!" "No seat belt PUHLEEZ!" Top of his lungs. I honestly don't know if I handled it well. I tried distracting him with books, treats...nothing helped. He calmed down a bit when I just ignored him but that felt AWFUL. Any btdt? I felt even worse when some well-meaning parents came up to me afterward and said they felt bad for me...like no one should feel bad for me. I have a wonderful son...who just had a very public meltdown. Am I the only one this ever happened to? 9 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Was he in his car seat? Maybe he was just nervous about sitting in such a big seat by himself and didn't have the security of his car seat. [ Reply | More ]

No he was just in the big seat. I thought the car seat would be too bulky for the plane, plus i've never been on a flight in which a child was in a car seat. I've always seen them checked in with the baggage. Maybe I'll try bringing it next time...if there is a next time before he turns 10. [ Reply | More ]

I just flew on a trans-atlantic trip with my just turned 2 year old. It was also a nightmare. She did manage to sleep here and there, but she hated sitting in the carseat. I had to hold her for most of the 12 hour flight. I was just thinking to myself that, "next time, i WON'T bring her car seat." She seemed better sitting in DH's big seat while he was in the bathroom. It was a very expensive ticket to pay just to keep my carseat housed there for the entire flight. Oh well. [ Reply | More ]

She's talking about those people who participated in a lottery for the various schools (some districts, like D1, don't have zoned schools that you automatically get into, so you need to rank your preferences.) I live in D1, and have gotten no official letter, though the school called and invited us to register and told us to keep it quiet. I'd call the schools you applied to, and barring that, email Jimmy Bueschen (sp?) at the DOE. He's in charge in D1, anyway. SO FRUSTRATING. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Is it too much to expect a major brand hotel chain to be truthful about it's no-pets policy? I selected a very very expensive hotel this weekend that specified in several places it had a no-pets policy for personal reasons. A half dozen pitbull and bull dogs were being housed in a single room down the hall, and another door in another part of the facility had a note warning cleaning staff to stay out because of pets in the room. After I calmly stated it would be kinder to customers to state they accepted pets, the manager became beligerent and defensive telling me seeing eye dogs could be in the facility (he obviously doesn't know those dogs are not pets, they are tools) Don't tell me I should have asked. Then I needed to confirm whether they indeed had a swimming pool, a business center, a king size bed, a fully equipt kitchen, that they were a hotel, that they kept toilet paper in stock, and towels etc etc, which are all the things they claimed to have and any reasonable person ought to be able to rely upon when they state it in writing. If they've allowed pets for 13 years they shouldn't lie about it in their documentation and state specifically that no pets are allowed. I say again this was a very very expensive chain. 11 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I wasn't op, but I know I'm right, they don't use pit bulls as service dogs, and I doubt if there were 6 in one room that they were passed off as service dogs. Service dogs wear special identification and if she saw the dogs, and they were service dogs, she would have been able to tell that immediately. I doubt op would have had a problem with a seeing eye dog... [ Reply | More ]

Gadzooks these were *not* service animals they were pets. The idiot manager was using seeing eye dogs as an excuse that animal fur could be in a room. He claimed he knew nothing about them even though 3 of his staff were having their coffee break near them as they chatted about them. This was a very expensive chain suite hotel in the middle of a business park surrounded entirely by fields so it was obvious the dogs were from their property. [ Reply | More ]

Northern Exposure character (90s show). Every boyfriend died untimely deaths. It was a good show full of complicated characters. Your life seems like it has been truly difficult. I can't imagine losing a husband but having to explain to your eldest boy 3 times now that they are fatherless...that's profound. Just be crystal clear with the new man. Perhaps establish some relationship rules for yourself that you can live with regarding commitment levels and long-term goals. Do you wnat to remarry again or just date? Figure it out, or tell this man you are trying to figure it out but that you really would adore having him around. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Need advice on good quality, smaller-size baby changers. We need a changing table that has drawers underneath for storage. We bought a Da Vinci and it turned out to be absolute horrible quality. Baby coming soon, so we need a suggestion for a good quality, sturdy changing table with drawers. Any recommendations of brand names and/or models? 4 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

why do you have to have a changing table? just get a bureau you like, and put a changing pad on top of it [ Reply | More ]

I see. Obviously, anything done to protect the life of an innocent can be forgiven or even applauded. I was thinking of cheating in the sense it is commonly used here - as in cheating on a spouse. I don't think there is ever an excuse for that ;-) [ Reply | More ]
