well, without getting so specific that I'll out the suffering wife, her husband (who has a serious substance abuse problem) works a loosely supervised job in NYC for a company based overseas. he went on about a dozen business trips over the last 18 months, many for more than a week. turns out (first) that he was getting some on the side, (then) that it was a regular thing with 1 woman, (and next) that there wasn't any business being done at all... he was paying for the trips with his savings (but even better) the other woman started harrassing the wife, to the point where the number had to be changed. And of course, neither one can afford the house on their own. And he's completely unrepentant. It's horrible but fascinating. [ Reply | More ]

try not to blame yourself. I seriously doubt a little wine caused the LD. We had a child with a heart defect and I obsessed about all the things I did "wrong". My doc told me that when a pg has a good outcome, the mom forgets all the little things she did like eat tuna or have a glass of wine. But when something goes wrong, we tend to obsess about every little thing. Give yourself a break [ Reply | More ]

We had friends who lived there with babies/toddlers and they really liked it. It is a little bit out of the way in terms of subway access, so just make sure you consider your commutes and the commute of a potential nanny. My friends said, that below 96th street, that part of the LES and the very far east UES were the best "bang for your buck". [ Reply | More ]
