How long would you recommend my mom stay over to help us out after the baby is born? She's from out of state so it's not like she can just drop in as needed. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

If you get along with her ask her to come for a month. [ Reply | More ]

We are different, but the last thing I wanted was a house guest. DH and I did great with baby when we first brought her home - but I have an excellent dh, who cooks and cleans and had time off from work. [ Reply | More ]

depends on how helpful your mom is. Mine stayed for a week, and was great--she cooked, cleaned, took care of me (I had a section.) She and DH traded off helping at night so we could all get some sleep. [ Reply | More ]

I would have her come after dh goes back to work, not while he's still home. [ Reply | More ]

I am so scared about this! My mom and aunt want to come, and they are both supper helpful, but i know that mil will want to if they do, and she's not helpful at all. I haven't figured out how to handle that yet... [ Reply | More ]

ITA! MY mom came for 2 nights after DD was born, when DH was home. She wasn't all that helpful b/c DH was here doing normal stuff like cooking and shopping. I would have much rather have had her here after he returned to work to go for walks with, etc. GL!! Babies are bunches of fun! [ Reply | More ]

I took two weeks paternity (aka vacation time.) Then MIL came for two or three more. That was a great way to do it. [ Reply | More ]

My mom was there for 10 days and I was so depressed when she left. A full two or three weeks -- or, honestly, even longer -- would have been great. BUT she and I are really close. (I also had her in the room during ds's birth, which a lot of people think is weird.) [ Reply | More ]
