We can't cancel or change the flights but we'll cancel the hotels for obv reasons. So was wondering if anyone knows of a specific resort or an area within driving distance to San Jose airport where we could go and lay out and relax and get some sun in early August? I guess this will be our babymoon! Thanks in advance. 1 Reply [ Reply | Watch | More ]

There are wonderful spas around Calistoga where you can sit in the hot springs... You could check into the Claremont Resort (amazing hotel, amazing spa, beautiful setting, easy to get into Berkeley), Monterey can be really nice... There are moody coastal spas and bed and breakfasts in Sonoma, but as pregnant as you'll be, I'd limit driving since you probably won't be super comfortable. [ Reply | More ]

this is our long-time sitter -- we have had a relationship with our sitter's family since dc was born, so it's not the usual setup. she gets vacation time whenever we take vacation, which is a lot, as well as when she wants to (though she rarely takes off when we don't). we don't do sick days per se -- as i said, we have a long-time relationship with our sitter and her family, so there's a lot of trust there. she will typically work the whole day when there is a school holiday (she is an assistant teacher, so her schedule matches our dc's) -- we pay her extra those weeks she works much longer hours (at an hourly rate of $15 over and above her normal pay). this is not the typical scenario by any means. yes (one kid). last summer, our sitter got paid for full-time hours, even though dc was in camp (because drop off was after dh and i went to work, and pick up was before we got home). this summer, however, our sitter is taking july and august off, and dc is in camp that drops off early and picks up later, so it works out great.
