[ - ] What Catholic or private school would you recommend for Harrison? Most important to me is that the school is really good, next priority is that its Catholic, but I would prefer really good school over so-so Catholic. Looking for both elementary and high school. Yes, deer vs regular ticks. They both live in grass - your yard (I think those are more likely to be deer) or high beach grass (more likely regular). [ Reply | More ]

They can be the size of a pin head, so you need to look pretty closely. I think that the preferred method is use tweezers (but be careful not to squish the tick while still in the skin.) [ Reply | More ]

I think if it's your existing nanny that you were alrady paying for 2 dc, then yes. if you are hiring a new nanny, then you might be able to offer at the low end of the 2 child range since 1 will be in school. fwiw, school should be at least 15 hrs/wk though, otherwise, she really has 2 dcs ft. A mass exodus might not happen, but I think that more families will move away in the next 2-5 years than did in the last 2-5. For one, real estate in the city is not getting cheaper but even in the best suburbs it is, which makes the city seem more expensive. The school craziness is overdone. And a lot of finance jobs will be lost for a while and those people may have to go elsewhere to find work. [ Reply | More ]

They have no family there, but with new baby on the way, they need a little more room, and less stress about school. I totally understand where she is coming from. They are looking for a certain kind of child and from what I gathered from DC's interview last year during the 1 hour child playdate they do they their own version of developmental testing (DC mentioned interesting things they asked him to do), so if all else falls into place and DC does great on their internal tests and school report - mid 90s ERB probably in the running. Everyone in Essex County has that privilege, including Millburn/Short Hills and Livingston. What Maplewood does not have is a mall or substantial commercial ratables which pay the high taxes that good local schools require. On the one hand, no having that (large scale) stuff contributes to the unique physical charm of the place; on the other hand, the taxes are higher. Personally, living in Maplewood, I'd give up some charm for some big ratables on the edge of town, if there were room. (Apparently, there isn't.) [ Reply | More ]

School ratings do not disaggregate by socioeconomic status and race, therefore, a white upper middle class community like Chatham will virtually always have higher school ratings than a diverse community like Maplewood: if you disaggregate there, the tests scores are comparable or better. [ - ] Shettles help. He says to have sex 12 hours after you get a postive surge on opk if you are ttc a boy. Wouldn't this be too late to conceive? 12 hours after the surge? I am confused about this because once you get a positive on opk, doesn't that mean ovulation will occur about 24 hours later NOT within the next 24 hours... 8 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I did shettles and used thermometer and charting, did exactly what he said (worked three times). Do what he says. Its not a typo. Re read it and make sure you read it right and do what he says. [ Reply | More ]

good grief... why did you need to do it three times? I understand if you've got 1-2 ds or 1-2 dds and want one of the other, but 3 times is micromanaging the processes... [ Reply | More ]

it is within 24-48 hours. You have no idea when you had the surge. If you test yesterday at 2:00 pm and today at 2 pm, the surge could have happened anytime from then to now... [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Can anyone recommend a hospital in Westchester? We live in Brooklyn, but we're moving to Hastings-on-Hudson in August. I'm seeing an OB at St. Luke's right now, but I'm really worried about getting there in time. I'm trying for a VBAC and this is my third baby. 1 Reply [ Reply | Watch | More ]

A friend delivered at Greenwich Hosp. and loved it. Said it was like a hotel, and the staff was incredible. He also told me that he knows of lots of non-CT residents from Westchester, NYC & LI who went there for birth. [ Reply | More ]
