[ - ] High chair / feeding suggestions? DS is 7 mos. been feeding him in bumbo for now. really need to get something, but don't want some big plastic ugly thing. apt is small, and we only have 2 dining chairs. do we buy another chair and get a booster thing (ie. FP spacesaver), or should we get a high chair. was thinking about the svan bc its small? not sure about stokke bc it doesn't have a tray. any thoughts?? thanks so much? 19 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

i like the stokke or just get one that goes onto a chair though the chair gets pretty yucky. at least with the stokke, you can use for longer. i do think it has an attachment tray-i could be wrong [ Reply | More ]

op: the stokke def does not have a tray. that is why im not sure i want that now. stokke seems much better for when DS is much older. i think you need the tray for now so he can pick up finger food. i know you can probably just put food on the table, but we have a tablecloth and i think it would be really messy, and would be better off with a tray we can stick in the dishwasher. but im a 1st time mom, so what the hell do i know? i just got the ikea $25 highchair and it's basic but does the trick. if you only have 2 dining chairs, i wouldn't give one up to to a booster seat. [ Reply | More ]

Ikea has a terrific high chair for like $22 bucks, white, all plastic easy to clean and comes apart for travel. trust me you do not want something with padded cushions and all that crap that you have to scrub forever and gets all crusty and gross. check it out online. [ Reply | More ]

op: i totally agree about ease of clean. and i am concerned about the svan for that reason. i saw the ikea one online. the footprint seems kinda big, no? [ Reply | More ]

poster above: it's not a big footprint, when compared to other highchairs. but if you are really pressed for space, perhaps consider the Chicco hook on chair which attaches w/ vices to the side of the table. [ Reply | More ]

have you seen the inglesina club chair. i think it looks a lot like the ikea one. i just thought maybe the 4 legs seemed kinda wide, almost as big as one of those mamma jamma plastic ones. but i have not seen the ikea one in person. the ikea one also has a tray, right? [ Reply | More ]

can you use the me too clip on seat? that's what we use but can only do it b/c we have a granite counter we eat at and it clips to that. db much prefers that to the big plastic high chair we had. [ Reply | More ]
General Topics 06.26.08, 06:16 PM Flag
»
the problem with the clip on is the same as the stokke. our dining room table must have a tablecloth on it, and i feel like it would be a huge pain to clean up any mess on the table. was thinking that a tray would be a lot easier. but maybe im wrong here? i thought the svan seemed like a decent solution, except for the price. i wasnt sure if ppl are happy with the svan. i would love to do just a cheapo booster w/tray, but we only have 2 chairs. and if buy a 3rd chair, might as well buy something geared to the baby, like a high chair. we actually really like the svan--have used it for more than two years and it's in great shape and not hard to clean. we stick the cushion in the washing machine occasionally, and just wipe down the wood. i think it's great and we just started using it with our 2nd dc--i like that we can keep it in the dining room when we want, without it looking awful. funny - not only am i not a nanny, i'm a stay-at-home mom with two kids and another on the way. i just feel like if i did need to turn my kids over to someone on a regular basis, i'd want them to be the best they could be, and would be happy to pay well for that. (i don't get people - who can afford otherwise - who skimp on childcare. what better to spend your money on! again, that's for people who can afford to pay a nice wage.) [ Reply | More ]

started as pure nanny as youngest child was a toddler. i didn't ask her to plan the vaca.. she took it upon herself (also it meant she got a paid week off if we went away)... her role has changed as the children went to school full time. issue is that we both work full time and we have to keep her full time or we'd lose her. Does it matter? People do this with or without kids, it makes no difference. Most people ignore their marriage for so long it's bound to happen. Chances are if you are not sleeping with your spouse he or she is probaly getting it somewhere. Do you have DC in underwear? My method is to go cold turkey, load 'em up with liquids, and keep bringing them to the toilet. They will get uncomfortable in wet underwear and will "get it" sooner rather than later. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] If you were getting major FA from TT private, but come into inheritance of $1MM (no 401k to speak of, HHI was too low to save for retirement), would you pull dc out of school and send dc to public and move to a better gen ed zone since you can afford to buy an apt there?
