Also, OR below -- it's a page from the testing board, I think. It shows your dc's score, and a bar graph to show where that score is compared to meeting the standards. We also had a separate page that showed what the "score" (i.e., 700) meant in terms of how many questions dc missed or got right. [ Reply | More ]

My child is leaving K this year at NEST and I guess, sort of reading. All the kids are at different levels. Teacher told me not to worry about it. Its only kindergarten. More important to learn social skills. [ Reply | More ]

My DC just finished gen'l ed K in D2 reading at level D. Teachers told me this was above grade-level for K, but I know that there were other DC in class reading more advanced books. Don't know what's expected for 1st. [ Reply | More ]

My dd just finished gen ed d2 k reading level m-n-o books. I think she was way ahead, but I couldn't tell. It seemed all the kdis were reading. Some who weren't reading at all a few months ago were reading really well in the last week. It was formally taught. [ Reply | More ]

Yes, but there's not really any opportunity to be in the classroom. I'm most concerned about him being scolded for making an innocent mistake, which this teacher has been known to do in the past. Are there ways I can help him not be bothered by a teacher's criticism when he knows he's doing his best? Are 5 y.o.s even capable of not automatically taking an adult's comments as truth? not much you can do. My dc had a complete idiot. You just have to suffer thru it. IF you can win the teacher over (liking you as a person), then she might be a tiny bit easier on your dc. But who knows. Just teach your dc to follow the rules as best you can and don't be too strict on him at home if he takes a beating at school [ Reply | More ]
