I this feeling that there will be a massive exodus from the city, with all of this school craziness. I know 2 families moving away. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Plenty of other families in the outer boroughs or Jersey to take their place in Manhattan, since they may be in even worse school districts. [ Reply | More ]

Its not happening, that is in part why the schools are so crowded. People do not leave. 20 years ago, when the second baby was born and the first was nearing school age, everyone left. No more. Have you looked around?! [ Reply | More ]

OP: I didn't really mean right this second, but maybe in the next few years. Between the economy and realestate, it seems like it might happen. [ Reply | More ]

The economy will recover in five to seven years. [ Reply | More ]

A mass exodus might not happen, but I think that more families will move away in the next 2-5 years than did in the last 2-5. For one, real estate in the city is not getting cheaper but even in the best suburbs it is, which makes the city seem more expensive. The school craziness is overdone. And a lot of finance jobs will be lost for a while and those people may have to go elsewhere to find work. [ Reply | More ]

The main reason for the craziness is that more people are staying and many people are having more dc [ Reply | More ]

OP: That's my point. I am feeling it because my dd will be in the pool next year for pre-k, and I can't imagine what that's going to be like. I spoke to a woman today, who decided that they are moving to Boulder for space and good public schools. They have no family there, but with new baby on the way, they need a little more room, and less stress about school. I totally understand where she is coming from. I know a few more people looking to leave as well. So maybe it's just the people I'm surrounded with. [ Reply | More ]

You wish (to make room). I know a few who are moving out to NJ and Westchester but no exodus to speak of. I know a few who are moving into Manhattan from NJ, in fact. [ Reply | More ]

I'm predicting an influx of families as gas prices rise and people embrace urban living. [ Reply | More ]
