You sound nuts. That's what you think motivates people to reach out to other incoming K families during the summer?? For everyone I know it's about easing the transition for their dc. Maybe your dc had zero anxieties about starting in a new school, but many do and it's often helpful if they already have some familiar faces when the year begins. [ Reply | More ]

Mine was totally excited to start K until she had a couple of playdates with another girl who was going to start K at the same school. Anderson parent here. The school sends out a directory of the kids in the grade. You won't get your class assignment until closer to the start of school (mostly so you don't lose the entry card) and because they take time over the summer to try to balance the classes in all the ways you'd want them to try to do (more difficult this year because they only met some of the incoming class at orientation and not for very long). It's good for your child to know kids from both classes. They'll see one another at recess and you can arrange playdates and/or after school classes together (or transportation) regardless of which class your child is in. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] DH and I are having problems with a friend who seems to be in a downward spiral financially, emotionally, etc. It seems that no matter how much we help this person out, it's never enough. We've caught her in some lies, too. She seems incredibly moody, super happy one day and down in the dumps the next. She completely ran out of money and almost lost the house she managed to buy with her inheritance (if it weren't for the fact that we and another friend lent her money to get by). Her mother died almost two years ago and I know it was very tough on her, but it seems that she is really coming undone and I don't know if it's because of the loss of her mom or some other problems. She's estranged from her other family members and it seems that we are her only friends and we just don't know what else to do for her. We even hired her to help out with our small business, but she's been quite difficult to work for, shows up late, moody, etc. Any insights? We want to be good friends but don't know how much more we can keep helping her out. 9 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

maybe a mood disorder, then. Either way, it sounds like you are going to have to enlist some more help if you really want to help her. enabling her to continue destructive behavior isnt really what you want to do. helping someone out of a jam once out of friendship is one thing, but if someone you love is really in trouble, you have to do something. beware though she may not appreciate it until much later [ Reply | More ]

ooooh - mine is good at that too! She actually managed to convince my dh that I hated her AND - get this - her UNBORN child! DH confronted me (she told him I said something to him) at which point I told him he was crazy, misinformed, and I was really hurt to think that he could think I was capable of hating anyone, especially a baby. He got REALLY mad at his sister after that! [ Reply | More ]

OMG! sounds exactly like my situation. Pretty much LIES! and SIL lies to try and get het brothers attention and make him mad at ME over nothing... and he has caught on and is now PISSED at her for ever starting something between us. DH and I are best friends and tell eachother anything... He got mad at me and realized that he can NEVER do that again. [ Reply | More ]

ditto. but its nice to have someone be genuinely happy. if you are, say so and leave it at that. I find myself apologizing for our good luck, and feel generally awkward about it. [ Reply | More ]

No, I don't think so - go by your pediatrician. My pediatrician told me too and dd still uses a bottle so I kind of want to go anyway. But the family in my building took their dd for the first time when she was three. [ Reply | More ]
