[ - ] Does anyone have any experience applying to privates from a NYC daycare? Or anyone at private that knows of kids there that went to daycare. Just curious (dd goes to daycare, probably going public). 50 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I don't know of any kids who still went to daycare at age 4. The issue would be that someone would have to write a school report for the applications process. WHy not just send dc to a preschool for a year? [ Reply | More ]

helped? lady, I know either as a new parent to this system or just because you are not exactly an insider, that you want to believe all legacy dcs are idiots who waltzed in because of some connection. It just isn't the case. There are plenty of us to go around who apply and their don't have to take any of us - we have given no $$ ever to either school. Why not just consider it likely that smart parents beget smart dcs and call it a day. [ Reply | More ]

PSDs inflate their role and significance to get people to apply to their schools and pay 20K for blocks and crayons. On the other side of the process, from a K-12 admissions position I promise you we take who we want and don't listen to what the PSDs tell us they want or think [ Reply | More ]

My older child went to daycare (and now so does younger one). About 1/2 her class applied to private school. Those kids now go to Bearley, Spence, Nightengale, Buckley, Dalton (2 kids), Riverdale, Fieldston Lower, Ethical Culture, Claremont and Berkley Carrol. Anyway, except for the one at Claremont (and maybe BC), I think even by UB standards it's a great list of schools. [ Reply | More ]

Our daycare is also a preschool and has always sent kids to a wide range of public and private schools, including TT. Very few kids were legacies. The former director was well known to the ongoing schools - I am not sure about her replacement but the ongoing schools definitely knew and liked our daycare. I think it can be an advantage since not that many kids were competing for the same spots. You might not get as much handholding or the feeling you are being brokered, but if it's an accredited preschool it should be fine. [ Reply | More ]

Stay on the Bay side. The big beaches on the Nat'l Seashore are difficult to access and too big to enjoy with little kids. that sounds good. Tell her that your baby doesn't understand that the noise she thinks is funny may not be appropriate, but when she's a little older you will help her learn to make good choices, and you hope your MIL can back you up at that point [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] I've just about had it with my three year old. She won't eat anything! Every meal is a battle. She will sometimes try new foods, but only if we feed it to her. She says it's good then refuses to eat it unless we continue to feed her (which i'm so not doing. i have a one year old too). I can't stand it. Tried deceptively delicious and she woudn't eat that either. she's down to three foods - mac and cheese, chicken nuggets and tacos (with soy meat). Now she will only eat the soy meat and cheese from the taco and not the tortilla. I'm about to lose it. She's been like this since she was a baby. She used to cry when I brought out jars of green baby food. I'm trying no snacks, no yogurt drinks, and you get what's on your plate and that's it. Is that the wrong thing? Or should I just cave and give her what she wants (bread and cheese today). 3 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

put food on the plate, if she's hungry she'll eat. Don't cave into her demands about feeding her. She most likely is jealous you feed her sibling. BTW many kids her age only eat 3 things..at least they are eating. I have 2 picky eaters (8yr and 4yrs) it does get better but I didn't freak out over it because I would have pulled my hair out [ Reply | More ]

I had a very picky eater at that age who now eats a wide variety of foods at age 8. My strategy was to not make an issue out of meal time. I always offered healthy foods and snacks (as long as they were healthy). My advice is to let up and just let her eat whatever she wants, as long as it's not junk food. Give a treat occassionally, and offer lots of fruits as snacks. [ Reply | More ]

that's my situation (girl was 4.5 years ago and we no longer have any of her stuff).
