[ - ] Advice please: how would you handle family (an aunt and her sick in the head dh) that you haven't seen in 7yrs. I'm headed to a family wake and they will be there. I don't have words for them and don't want to be a hypocrite. I hope they don't come up to me because I really don't have words and the words I do have wouldn't be appropriate. I'm going to try and just ignore and keep away..but just trying to get myself prepared for the worst. Tia 8 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I have picky eaters and I do make things they like and they don't like. They will eat when they are hungry. They usually like the same thing over and over again. also have a 3.5 yo. She gets the same plate as everyone else, and she'll eat it only if it's one of her usual faves (pasta, or pizza, or chicken sometimes) and she won't eat it at all if it's not one of her usuals. If she's hungry at bedtime she can have an apple or a piece of bread. I make the bedtime snack not delightful enough to make skipping dinner worth it. So I guess my advice is a combo of the two- serve her the same meal as everyone else, but let her have a little something later if she wants it. Sometimes kids are just too tired to eat dinner- mine are, definitely, so it's not really a time to enforce things, I think. [ Reply | More ]

try dipping things- I have gotten my 3 yo to eat so much more just by putting a little bowl on her plate with something in it- peanut butter, hummus, tzatziki. She's so charmed by dipping pieces of bread into it that she forgets that she's morally opposed to eating. [ Reply | More ]

my 5.5yo has always been picky, but his tastes have expanded slowly. For instance this year he added spagetti noodles (no sauce), and chicken nuggets. We don't force eatting but we do insist that he try some thing even if he spits it out immediately and we try to time trying new things to when he hungriest, and leaving food out, like if you had company. I'll leave fruit and cheese and stuff he might be tempted to pick on. [ Reply | More ]

I disagree that they will outgrow it on their own if you always cater to the child's wants. I have three kids and out of my need for sanity, dinner is dinner. My 8 y.o. will actually eat most things b/c she is very desert motivated. My 5 y.o. prob eats nothing to very little at least 3 nights a week. My 2 y.o. pretty much never eats ever. But seeing how much my 8 y.o. has expanded what she eats over the past two years I have hope for the younger two that they will eventually figure out that I serve yummy food. [ Reply | More ]

Neither of my kids slept 6-8 hours a night until they were closer to a year old. I'm sure mine are on the outside edge of the norm, but I don't think most 11 wo are sleeping that much by any means. [ Reply | More ]

you won't truly be showing with your first - you'll feel completely different but no one will notice with clothes on. you'll just think they should b/c you'll feel huge. [ Reply | More ]
