hmmmmm... you could buy clothes for older age, but you need to have seen baby to know if small medium or large. So that one is tricky. You could give gc to buy buy baby - or you could go look around and see if something jumps out. A classic gift would be a boxed set of Beatrix Potter or Pooh (the real ones. Or you could do the typical Goodnight Moon, or the typical baby board books by Boykin (sp?). [ Reply | More ]

i got so many toys for my db i didn't buy any for a long time. How much do you want to spend? If dc is girl - the girls schools (at least the three TT & MM) are better for this hands down. You should check them out. That said, dc would do well at either St. Ann's or Dalton GL [ Reply | More ]

I'd choose Dalton. Their drama program is superb (school produced many actors). Visual arts program is very good. of course, academically rigorous. But if I lived in Brooklyn, I'd choose SA. I'm not a fan of a long commute. [ Reply | More ]

not the cause, but a factor, right? And I do actually have a PhD in a medical science, not that its the reason I would bring it up. She was always talking about our other friend who struggled with infertility and was a very very thin marathon runner & how she thought the woman should just stop running for a bit and see if it would help! jeez, what's with the UB'er that went ballistic? You're probably right, it might have something to do with it. Both extreme underweight and overweight issues do effect fertility. It's ironic that she brought up the marathon runner, b/c I know someone that actually did get pregnant after she stopped running 10-15 miles a day. This all being said, I would not bring it up. I find it unlikely that she doesn't already know that weight can be a significant issue for fertility, almost every book says to get to your ideal weight if you're having problems. [ Reply | More ]

I don't know if Avent is a safe bottle, but I know you can buy a conversion kit for about 10 or 20 dollars so that they fit - it may work on other wide mouthed bottles too. I got mine at Babies r us [ Reply | More ]

Good to Grow is a brand that doesn't have BPA and the small-necked bottles fit the medela pump. That's why I bought them. The nipples are kind of crappy, but its worth it to me to have one less step. [ Reply | More ]

np: i think once dcs are a certain age (say 4), supervising a drop off playdate is part of a nanny's job description. as long as it's not daily childcare for other kids, it's fine, you don't pay more. [ Reply | More ]

I think certainly by age 5, most playdates are drop off. the only time i remember my mom at a playdate after that time was if it was with her friend's kids. yes, nannies supervise and in nyc i've never met a sahm who was wierd with that. [ Reply | More ]

Yes, my kids have drop-off playdates supervised by my nanny, as well as the nannies/babysitters of their friends. It is part of the job, no big deal. My nanny likes it. [ Reply | More ]
