[ - ] My son is 7. Very tall (100th percentile) and lean. However he has an enormous appetite - like will eat and adult-sized meal and ask for another (meal that is - not serving). I am very fat and am militant about ultra-healthy, unprocessed food but I am lost when it comes to how MUCH to feed him? Do you continue to give your kids food when they ask for it even if they've eaten a lot? 23 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

don't take this personally. we have the same issue in my house. my husband thinks he can eat potato chips drink soda ect. and say it's o.k. because he is not agreeing. I disagree with this because it just makes the kids want it even more because they are being denied. [ Reply | More ]

If he's not fat, why in the world would you even consider limiting his food? In fact, it sounds like you need to add some high calorie foods to his diet. He is probably eating so much b/c he's not getting the calories he needs b/c your feeding him what an overweight adult woman should eat, not what a healthy growing boy should eat. [ Reply | More ]

I totally DO NOT mean this to be snarky, but why are you very fat if you are militant about ultra-healthy food? To answer your question, he should eat until he's full, and as long as we're talking about whole grains, veggies, lean meats, etc., it's okay. You don't want to exercise portion control with a 7 yo!!!!! (With yourself, yes ;-)). [ Reply | More ]

I live in PS198. In PS290 you can check with Eberhart Brothers - no fee, small but well taken care of walk ups. $2900 is sort of the going rate but that doesn't mean it can't be done. On weekends, yes. During the week, DH does bedtime for one dc (while I do the other) if he is home for it but not always the case. [ Reply | More ]

Dh does no housework (we have a cleaner though) and I do most of the childcare even when he is home. [ Reply | More ]

When he's home I generally clean b/c it's a break from baby time for me, while playing with the baby is a break from him after work. [ Reply | More ]

We outsource a lot. He does most of his laundry himself, deals w/ most of the bills, paperwork, keeps his stuff tidy. But I do most of the household stuff. Childcare--we don't really keep a score, but when he's home he's involved. [ Reply | More ]
