Do you do drop-off playdates for your DCs if you have a nanny? Is it reasonable to ask your nanny to supervise a drop-off playdate? how do sahms react to that? tia. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

If dc is not up for it then obviously no, but most moms/nannies do not want to entertain other adult at that point so your dc may well lose on playdates if you have to always come along. [ Reply | More

np: i think once dcs are a certain age (say 4), supervising a drop off playdate is part of a nanny's job description. as long as it's not daily childcare for other kids, it's fine, you don't pay more. [ Reply | More

never ocurred to me to pay more. it balances out, and also IME it cna be easier to care for two 6 y.o.s than one (they often vanish for long periods of time). [ Reply | More

There is absolutely no reason to pay more, unless the other child is there 2-3 times a week and there is no reciprocation. But then it's babysitting not playdates. [ Reply | More

I think certainly by age 5, most playdates are drop off. the only time i remember my mom at a playdate after that time was if it was with her friend's kids. yes, nannies supervise and in nyc i've never met a sahm who was wierd with that. [ Reply | More

Yes, my kids have drop-off playdates supervised by my nanny, as well as the nannies/babysitters of their friends. It is part of the job, no big deal. My nanny likes it. [ Reply | More

I wohm PT and when scheduling playdates for the first time I usually mention that I will not be there on x day, but if they prefer, we could do the playdate on x day, when I am there. Only once has it been an issue. [ Reply | More

We've done the reverse--DS has had a playdate at a friend's house with the nanny supervising. I am fine with it. I SAHM and have a little help, but pretty much I'm the one here when a playdate is over. I think either is fine. [ Reply | More

even SAHM's, or WAHM's, may have a sitter do pick up or handle a playdate if they are jugling more than one kid. its not a big deal to most. [ Reply | More
