Kirkland is cruelly suburban. Why the east side? Why not Seattle proper? If you must do the east side, I agree with the other poster that you might want to consider Bellevue -- it has a downtownish area. [ Reply | More ]

Bellevue has a really good school district, if not the best in the area. Second is Lake Washington where Kirkland is located. I would suggest Bellevue, stick close to the high-end Bellevue Square Mall, lots of high rise condos, financial buildings etc. There is a great kids park within walking distance. Main Street one block down has great eateries and boutiques for shopping. It is adjacent to Medina, a gated community where Bill Gates reside. Very close to both bridges to Seattle. There is a variety of ethnic restaurants nearby as well. [ Reply | More ]

But on the other hand, I do like the walking neighborhoods of Seattle such as Wallingford (John Stanford International School), Queen Anne, Greenlake (great park), West Seattle (California Ave.), Capitol Hill (15th Ave.) for more diversity. Grew up in NYC and now have 2 kids (5yo & 3yo). These neighborhoods have many walking destinations and you may be able to find a Craftsman home to boot! [ Reply | More ]

Then don't say "the baby looks fine" so that she feels like it is all in her head. When someone is in that situation they could feel scared of the results and need someone else to push them to take actions. You should have said "if you have any concerns you go to a doctor and follow it up with some great story of the mother who got help and now the baby is perfect and how great that she listened to her insticts." No you don't say "you have a freaking crossed eyed baby" but you can say "Go right now, because you can never be too sure. OK I can answer this. When my dc was 6 months old my best friend told me she thought it was unusual for a child to show certain traits and they may be signs of an underlying issue. My dh & I never recognized these signs until she pointed them out, then they were impossible to miss. We had our pediatrician immediately see him and that got us on the way to a dx. I am THANKFUL that she was forthright with me and I was able to start helping dc immediately. It still amazes me that no one else saw these signs, including pediatrician, until she pointed them out! [ - ] If I wanted someone to come to my house 2x a week to do laundry and light housecleaning (just whatever could get done while the laundry is running) and possibly put together an occasional meal, how many hours each day would I need her to come? Any clue how much an hour I should expect to pay? 3 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

about 5-6 hrs each time - if you really want someone to be interested, at least $20/hr [ Reply | More ]

$200 sounds right. I pay 80 for once a week so you might be able to get it down to $160. Define "light housecleaning' my lady does floors, laundry, changes sheets, clean the bathroom, dishes if there are any, and straightens up. [ Reply | More ]

lol - we moved to the burbs b/c we only had to spend $50,000 more total on our house and we'd be paying about that each year at private school. i'm kind of the opposite of you - every time I miss our old neighborhood I remind myself of all the vacations, meals out and stuff that we would have to give up if we'd stayed. [ - ] Surprise pg - we've already discarded our infant carrier - it would have been too old anyway. Any reason not to get the Graco snugride (do they still make those?) I don't feel like looking at a million seats. Just want a lightweight, safe one. Not doing a travel system. 10 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

am pg by surprise too. Been looking and the snugride is still out there and good..the only thing the one we had 4 yrs ago had the gracopedic foam..now they don't. They have styrofoam and it's not as comfy in my opinion [ Reply | More ]

Snugride is great. We had one, lent it out and never got it back. When we had ds, DH went out and got the Peg Perago. It was awful. so heavy, hard to carry, straps tangled, sunshade didn't move. Go for the graco. [ Reply | More ]
