this may be a really stupid queation, but a friend invited us to her ds bday party. first a pool where non-members pay a lot then just hang/lunch/play back at their place. what is the protocol? when we get there does she pay for all of us? 2 adults/2 dc? or do we pay? i really cant afford to pay 100+ for 1 hour of swimming. not sure what to do. if she makes you pay that is ridiculous and rude. She invited, she should pay [ Reply | More ]

ok - that is what i thought - so when we arrive there, should we just step back for when its time to pay? [ Reply | More ]

if you are unsure, I would ask her what the cost is for the pool. If you ask she should say don't worry it's our treat. If she says it' s$100..I wouldn't go [ Reply | More ]

she really needs to treat. You need to ask anyway so you aren't caught off guard [ Reply | More ]

She should treat, but I doubt that she's planning on it. [ Reply | More ]

any clue how many other people she's inviting? have you been there before or can you play dumb and ask "do we need to meet at the gate or will they let us in without you present?" just some kind of question that would allow her to volunteer the info - "oh you just pay and they let you in." or "we're paying for everyone up front and your name is on a list." that kind of thing? i would assume she paid some package deal for her party. i am not sure if there is a not tacky way of asking. Maybe ask her if you can pay by credit card at the place and see if she says "don't be ridiculous it is all paid for". Are you sure it is not a drop off party. [ Reply | More ]

if the party is that small, she probably didn't pay for a package deal. Don't ask about the credit card if you're thinking about backing out if you're paying [ Reply | More ]

if you ask & it's clear that you're paying & it's too much $ for you, just go alone w/ the one dc who is the friend of her dc. say the other dc wasn't feeling well. [ Reply | More ]

You are over thinking this. Just call her and ask her what the deal is with getting in there. [ Reply | More ]

I am pretty sure she will pay for you. She will probably need to meet you at the gate anyway or else you can't get in. I wouldn't worry too much about it. My parents go to a golf club and always just pay for guests. This is probably why they are having a mini party. [ Reply | More ]
