this a$$ backwards and I agree that you are talking out your .... In Colorado, unless she pushing a stroller up a ski slope chances are she is and out of the car mostly. In NYC you WALK everywhere, nicely paved streets, potholes, over snow mounds, giant puddles, the park, up and down curbs. When it comes to strolling it's more all terrain than anywhere else --np BTW [ Reply | More ]

np: You might know what you are talking about in regards to your sister in Colo. (I don't know her so I'll assume you are right.) But you don't know shit about life in NYC for people who walk a lot. Most people I know in NYC go through two strollers per kid because they wear down the the wheels. A tough stroller (aka all-terrain) here is a really smart idea. Especially if you are planning on having a second. [ Reply | More ]

I have 3 kids in NYC and walk everywhere. And i've had the wheels replaced on my strollers, but I would not consider them to be "all-terain". Good for the city, yes, but I wouldn't take them off-roading. There is no need for your terrible attitude [ Reply | More ]

I like my bug. There are definitely less expensive but still great strollers out there that will take you through the winter, though. If you're concerned about snow and ice, something with three big tires might be even easier to push than the bugaboo. You can also consider the phil & teds if you think you might want two kids fairly close together. (I wish I had done this - now expecting ds2 and ds1 will only be 2.5 when he is born. We have a Bertini Bidwell -- it is also an all terrain stroller -- and a Mac. The Bertini is not light and doesn't fold up small but it has bigger wheels than the Bug and rocked the snow and sidewalk heaves (I'm in Brooklyn and we have a lot of tree root caused uneven sidewalks. Some of them stop the Mac in it's tracks if you are not paying attention.) The Bertini is a good bit cheaper than the Bug and it has one option I love -- you can put a toddler and a little on in it at the same time with an optional extra seat. [ Reply | More ]

Bite the bullet. The bug with the bassinet is really good for winter newborns -- you can really wrap them up well in there. I live in the city and have a bug and a maclaren and the two don't compare. I only use the maclaren when I'll have to fold it up en route for some reason, which is not frequently. IMO Bugs are better for city/walking life and maclarens are better for suburb/driving life. Also, it's MUCH easier to go up and down stairs with a bug. [ Reply | More ]

Totally depends how strong your child's profile is. Why is the K-12 impossible to get into? Even if it's Collegiate, it's not "impossible." Do you have DC's scores back yet? [ Reply | More ]

Impossible meaning that the chance is so much slimmer than the k-8. We would hate to lose the chance at the k-8 trying to shoot for a much harder option. Your right its not impossible I guess but I am not going to pretend we have a great shot. Profile is fine I guess scores are on the high side [ Reply | More ]

SO you have ERBs already? Has PSD seen them? [ Reply | More ]

We took them last year and then moved out of the city so we are going to use (gosh I hope we can use them) the old scores. PSD knows what they were but we have not spoken yet about scores or taking erb again [ Reply | More ]

I think you need to take them again, they need to be from current admission season (either spring or this fall), you should check on that. [ Reply | More ]

You can NOT use old scores. Score submitted MUST be from current admissions season. [ Reply | More ]

There's no reason not to apply to both schools. [ Reply | More ]

PSD suggests against it and we feel she will not support us as much if we do both. She wants us to go for the k-12 but that it because if we get in it looks better on her roster [ Reply | More ]

You need to have dc take the ERBs and see what they are. If very high, I would go with K-12 if you prefer it. If not, K-8 it is. [ Reply | More ]

Your PSD is giving you advice that makes her own life easier, not because it's the best thing for your dc. You realize that, right? If you're going to follow her advice on that because you're worried she won't support you as much as should can, you may as well go ahead and follow her advice on which school to apply to. No problem. And I'd like to think she wouldn't advise you to apply there unless she thought dc stood good chance of being accepted. Do you like the school? That would be my only caveat; if you really don't like it or think it would be a bad fit for dc, then of course you shouldn't follow PSD's advice. [ Reply | More ]

I like it, I like all of them really there isn't really anything wrong with any of the private schools IMO. I just want dc to get in somewhere and am afraid I am lowering his chances if I make the wrong call [ Reply | More ]

Thats ridiculous. Both schools will expect you to apply to both, and would be surprised if you didnt. [ Reply | More ]

I don't believe in the all the rules like "don't apply to both". I would apply to both and just say these schools are both important to you because you have a connection to them both. I would however, write only one FC letter based on where you truly think dc will be happiest. [ Reply | More ]

She can apply to both, but applying early decision to both may well be problematic if the schools know. Ideally OP should pick one if she has a clear preference and dc has a good shot there. [ Reply | More ]

She did not say it, but I know that's a consideration for people applying with legacy status. Not all schools do it any more so may not be issue for OP, just wanted to mention it. [ Reply | More ]

OP: thank you, I believe we can only FC 1 school they both had ED though so then the problem becomes which so we FC and which to general admission and basically whoever we gen admission apply to will reject us for not FCing them [ Reply | More ]

we know people who applied early at 2 schools last year and got in to both. if you think you like one school over the other where you think your dc would thrive, only apply to that one if you are so nervous. can always do the spin of, well, we wanted k-12 only or k-8 later if early notification doesn't work out for that 1 school [ Reply | More ]

If it's Trinity, do apply there since they accept only the connected people like you (w/ only few exceptions). If it's TT SS, I think they honor legacies more than Dalton or HM. If it's Dalton or HM, only apply if dc aced the ERB (95+) [ Reply | More ]
