Dc #1 will be applying to private this year WWYD: Legacy at two schools, one k-8 with ok reputation which is easier to get into and one k-12 impossible to get into. We have been told that we should not apply to both because neither will like that so, should we apply to k-8 which we know we will probably be accepted to then face applying out in 8th grade or take a shot at other school where chances of accept are much smaller. Totally depends how strong your child's profile is. Why is the K-12 impossible to get into? Even if it's Collegiate, it's not "impossible." Do you have DC's scores back yet? [ Reply | More

Impossible meaning that the chance is so much slimmer than the k-8. We would hate to lose the chance at the k-8 trying to shoot for a much harder option. Your right its not impossible I guess but I am not going to pretend we have a great shot. Profile is fine I guess scores are on the high side [ Reply | More

We took them last year and then moved out of the city so we are going to use (gosh I hope we can use them) the old scores. PSD knows what they were but we have not spoken yet about scores or taking erb again [ Reply | More

You need to have dc take the ERBs and see what they are. If very high, I would go with K-12 if you prefer it. If not, K-8 it is. [ Reply | More

Your PSD is giving you advice that makes her own life easier, not because it's the best thing for your dc. You realize that, right? If you're going to follow her advice on that because you're worried she won't support you as much as should can, you may as well go ahead and follow her advice on which school to apply to. I don't believe in the all the rules like "don't apply to both". I would apply to both and just say these schools are both important to you because you have a connection to them both. I would however, write only one FC letter based on where you truly think dc will be happiest. [ Reply | More

She can apply to both, but applying early decision to both may well be problematic if the schools know. Ideally OP should pick one if she has a clear preference and dc has a good shot there. [ Reply | More

we know people who applied early at 2 schools last year and got in to both. if you think you like one school over the other where you think your dc would thrive, only apply to that one if you are so nervous. can always do the spin of, well, we wanted k-12 only or k-8 later if early notification doesn't work out for that 1 school [ Reply | More

If it's Trinity, do apply there since they accept only the connected people like you (w/ only few exceptions). If it's TT SS, I think they honor legacies more than Dalton or HM. If it's Dalton or HM, only apply if dc aced the ERB (95+) [ Reply | More
