i don't know if you'll come back to check this but here are some things that helped me. i got rid of a lot of dc's clothing and do more frequent smaller loads. things never get put away and it's easier to look through a small load of clothing and also easier to have less selection. i started letting dcs choose dinners...they tend to pick easy things and i know they'll eat. simplify things as much as possible. we have two choices for breakfast, whereas i used to let them pick whatever they want. OP: I suppose the problem is that it takes her 30-45 minutes to calm down and drift off without a walk. usually lots of tears, and we have to soothe and settle her repeatedly. the walks are definately not a problem, give me and DH some time together, but i dont think we can continue them every night into the fall. OP: I suspect this might be true. when I am home I try to be more consistant about putting her down earlier, regardless if she shows these signs. however i travel a lot for work and dh seems to hold out for these signs before putting her down. I will discuss with him and maybe aim for an earlier bedtime. sadly, both of us work so this means we have less time with her at night, but clearly it is better she get the sleep she needs. The Black and Decker Do-It-Yourself book is really good. I would ask though, if it is UNDER THE SINK, why do think it is a washer? Do you mean a washer from the shut off valve that comes out of the wall? (If so, can you shut off water at the main?) [ Reply | More ]

Yes under the sink....The washer (or rubber ring thingy) that seals up the conectino between the 2 pipes...the first pipe is straight down under the sink and then there is a connection point to the curved pipe that goes into the wall. It's this connection that is leaking. [ Reply | More ]

OK, you need to turn the valve off first. Then open the faucet it went to. Put a bucket under the pipe 'cause some water will leak out. Then use two adjustable wrenches (or open ended wrenches OF THE RIGHT SIZE) to turn the two fittings. One thing to be careful of is that when you turn the fitting, the pipe is not twisting. (It seems like you have rigid pipe on both.) [ Reply | More ]
General Topics 07.15.08, 04:24 PM Flag

(cont) Once you have the fitting open, inspect the washer. (Actually, before you go to all this trouble, see if tightening the fitting doesn't make the leak go away FIRST. Assuming that doesn't fix it...) if the washer is looks like it needs to be replaced, bring it to a hardware store and get a new one. You should also get some teflon tape. Wrap this around the threads before you tighten everything back up. Close faucet, open valve, open faucet make sure it is running ok. Turn off faucet and check. (I'll put a watch on this and check back tomorrow. I have to go.) [ Reply | More ]

THANK YOU for this....I'm not going to do it until tomorrow because I don't want to get started until the hardware store is open, but one question in case you see this before I start...what do you mean by wrapping the threads in tape?> Won't this cover the thread grooves up making it impossible to screw the pipe back on? Or do you mean one thin layer of tape only that will indent right into the grooves? THANK YOU! [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Some say what you read on UB is all cr*p, but I started here 5 years ago and have found that it's pretty accurate overall, and if you follow it regularly you start to weed out the rumors. For example, before we applied for privates, I had read about the problems with summer birthdays. I thought, no way, my dd is so mature, and so did the PSD. But sure enough, she got "too young" feedback, plus one subtest of the ERB was off, which brought her score below 95, PLUS we need FA. She was WL across the board. So don't believe EVERYTHING you read on this board, but do believe some things: summer bdays will count against you, a not-perfect ERB doesn't help, and asking for FA just makes it worse. 12 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

OP here: That's really my point. That when someone posts on the board over and over that these things matter, it's probably best to be prepared that they will matter in your case too. I'm not making excuses for my dd, but she isn't a PITA, we're not PITA parents, my PSD was shocked by the SO, but I see why she might not have been among the first acceptances this past year. Lots of girls too. [ Reply | More ]

I agree summer bday absolutely hurts you. But you are wrong about the other 2. You don't need 99x3 to get accepted. FA- depends on school. If you apply to $$$$$ and very generous schools, it really doesn't matter as long as dc is qualified and dc will have same odds (which is small for everyone). [ Reply | More ]

That's common sense that a less than perfect record will yield less than perfect results. You didn't need UB for that if you weren't so tied up in wishful thinking and stepped outside of yourself to view this as a business model. [ Reply | More ]

I only use it as a babysitter - never understood why i would watch tv with my kids. I'd rather do crafts with them. My kids prob watch an hour a day. But if they choose to watch a movie in the morning, I don't restrict tv later in the day. I need the boob tube on in order to get dinner ready. [ Reply | More ]

I only do Tivo and DVDs so that there are no commericals. DVDs are better cause there's no "coming up next..." I like Showy Show on DVD and nature shows on DVD for kids are great! [ Reply | More ]
