We did CIO, and ds now falls asleep on his own (with less than 30 seconds of crying at night). But he's still waking up several times at night (though not crying), and also waking up at 5:30am. Does this just take its own time to lengthen? Anything we can do? 4.5 m/o. TIA. Exhausted. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

yes, just takes time, if db is already going to sleep on his own and not crying at night you are way ahead of where we were at that stage. It will get better, I promise! [ Reply | More ]

Thanks. It doesn't feel like it now. I feel like we'll be stuck in this forever. [ Reply | More ]

just curious - NOT flaming - but isn't 4.5 m/o young for CIO? When are you suppposed to start? [ Reply | More ]

I typically heard 6 months, but it seems to have worked for them. [ Reply | More ]

Three peds I spoke with said 4 months is perfect (two of them are moms, the other is a good childhood friend who I know is very smart and sensible). Their point is that the earlier you do it, the easier it is. And really, ds took to it very quickly. So, I'm ok with the age. [ Reply | More ]

^^^And as an example, he only cried 5 mins at night the first night. Often when we'd rock him to sleep, he'd cry that much or even more (I guess because he was fighting sleep). [ Reply | More ]

I think this is pretty normal. If anything, your baby is doing good with sleeping compared to other kids. I know kids who slept through to 7 at that age but I think waking up between 5 and 6 is pretty normal. [ Reply | More ]

Does that lengthen over time, or are we destined to always wake up at 5:30? [ Reply | More ]
