[ - ] OK - b/t the poster who is mad that her sil picked her choice for a girl's name (despite the fact that op is not even pg and the sil doesn't know the sex of her child) and the posters stressing out over Angelina naming her child Vivienne, I'm thinking there are some whacked out people out there. If you derive your security and sense of self worth from having the perfect, not too weird, not too popular but completely unique name, you need a serious shift in your priorities. 4 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

[ - ] Anyone deal with PRE partum depression? I'm 6 months with 2nd DS and just so incredibly down. I've been leaving work early, crying a lot, I can only sleep about 3 hours a night. OB was so completely unhelpful. She suggested I stop working. (Although at this point, with my attendance and performance lately I might just get canned.) I don't really know what to do. I don't even feel I can talk to my friends. I don't want anyone to think I am ungrateful for my pregnancy (esp. my many friends who are or have had trouble conceiving), I just can't seem to enjoy it. 6 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

i had that. prenatal depression, they call it. i distinctly remember holding my 1yo and thinking "maybe i'll just throw him down the steps". i also passed the bathroom one day and thought "maybe i'll just go in there and take a razor and slash my wrists". i was very emotionally shaky. how old is your ds? how are your finances? my advice to you would be to think really hard about what your triggers are and what will make you happier. (not in a fundamental way but in a practical way. for me it was the mess. really exacerbated my issues). see if you can take a week off from work. better than stopping completely. use it to take some walks, relax, unwind, breath, organize yourself, etc. good luck. I don't understand the question. 95% is very high odds -- it means out of every 100 babies, they are right for 95. You could be one of the 5 out of 100 in which the sonogram is wrong. Can't you just accept that you are "probably" having a boy, but won't know for sure until later -- 20 week sonogram perhaps or after amnio. [ Reply | More ]

I'm guessing one of 2 things -- she wants to know if she can tell people it's a boy. Or, she was hoping for a girl and is wondering if there's still a chance she'll get one. I think the problem is that she thinks she was first told "it's a boy", then later told "of course, only 95% accurate", so that threw her. [ Reply | More ]

I'm sure she will use us as a reference. I have a hard time badmouthing her since I would feel awful if she couldn't get a job. It came to my attention that she hasn't been watching my dc in the playground as closely as she claims. Also, she was late to pick up my dc from camp a few times and didn't tell me about it. As a parent who employs a nanny and baby sitters, I would definately expect you to tell me this kind of stuff when I call. I cannot imagine any parent willing to "overlook" your child's caretaker being late to pick up your child, not watching your child closely at the playground, and lying to you. That is egregious. 95% of nannies don't watch their charges closely in the playground. I was appalled the other day when I saw a group of nannies hanging out at the 77th and Amsterdam playground. They were talking, eating ice cream, and looking anywhere except at their charges. I had no idea which kids were with them. So, there are many parents out there who overlook or are at least oblivious to their nannies' lack of vigilance in the park. [ Reply | More ]

are you the original poster? If so, just because 95% of parents are not aware of such behavior does not make it tolerable. i think different parents expect different levels of vigilence and those who exepct high vigilence think the rest are nuts. I KNOW my nanny does not watch DS closely enough to make lots of other moms confortable, but I also know that she watches him closely enough to make ME comfortable. I take into consideration the park that they go to AND DS's maturity level which is far more than other kids his age. I'm pretty sure most moms don't think that I watch him closely enough either. there are a lot of creepy people out there in the world and a NYC public playground provides them with easy access to kids. At the park, vigilence should be at the highest level, for this reason alone. One would hope parents would instruct the nanny as to the risks of not paying attention at the public playground in NYC and that the nanny is competent enough to want to be protective. "constant preying upon" is not the issue. The presence of even a tiny risk is risk enough to warrant careful watching at the playground.
