Anyone deal with PRE partum depression? I'm 6 months with 2nd DS and just so incredibly down. I've been leaving work early, crying a lot, I can only sleep about 3 hours a night. OB was so completely unhelpful. She suggested I stop working. (Although at this point, with my attendance and performance lately I might just get canned.) I don't really know what to do. I don't even feel I can talk to my friends. I don't want anyone to think I am ungrateful for my pregnancy (esp. my many friends who are or have had trouble conceiving), I just can't seem to enjoy it. I do this every pregnancy. Usually gets better (but not completely gone) by 5 months. Have you noticed any difference as you've progressed? [ Reply | More ]

oh, it's gotten worse. much much worse. Honestly, I don't even know why I'm posting. I feel completely paralyzed with sadness most of the day. This feeling is so overwhelming. [ Reply | More ]

you need to talk to someone. sorry your ob was not helpful. i'm sure it feels too late to look for another one but it may be worth the effort. after sticking w/an ob i didn't love through an entire pg, i ended leaving when db was 7wks old b/c she was so unsupportive of my issues with thrush and mastitis and other things. do you have a general practioner you can talk to? what about your son's ped? could that dr. give you a recommendation? i had that. prenatal depression, they call it. i distinctly remember holding my 1yo and thinking "maybe i'll just throw him down the steps". i also passed the bathroom one day and thought "maybe i'll just go in there and take a razor and slash my wrists". i was very emotionally shaky. how old is your ds? how are your finances? my advice to you would be to think really hard about what your triggers are and what will make you happier. (not in a fundamental way but in a practical way. for me it was the mess. really exacerbated my issues). see if you can take a week off from work. better than stopping completely. use it to take some walks, relax, unwind, breath, organize yourself, etc. good luck.
