i just want him to be able to easily play with other children. he has a bit of a hitting problem- very rare now- and will sometimes take toys from others instead of talking. I have noticed other kids don't really speak to each other either. His former preschool teacher but a lot of emphase on his "social immaturaty" I see him as a healthy normal boy. [ Reply | More ]

I'm also biased because dd's preschool teacher told me that she wants her to work on her shyness, so I am pretty defensive about this kind of thing. :) There are ranges of social when a kid is 3, I think, and we have to let them be who they are. So for my dd, I'm letting it go-- if she finds a friend at the playground, that's great, but if she doesn't, that's ok too. Maybe when she's older I will encourage her to be more social (she's 3 now too). You could schedule one-on-one playdates- maybe that would help him? [ Reply | More ]

Nanny gets paid 52 weeks. I get lots of vacation time, so she gets 4 weeks. She chooses 2, I choose 2. If you can only do 2, I would let her choose at least one if you can, although that might make it difficult for you to plan. [ Reply | More ]

Thanks. I get four weeks too. Our problem is that we don't take full weeks at once. We do a lot of single days for long weekends which probably isn't fair to count even if she knows ahead. have you talked to the daycare provider? They may have some good advice for you based on others that have been in the same position. Also, daycare providers have a way of getting kids to do things that I would never think were possible- getting 10 kids to nap at the same time on mats on the floor, for example, so it may be that the bottle just won't be an issue. She'll be extra-tired at naptime because of the stimulation of daycare, and everyone else will be lying down without a bottle, and that will be the end of it. [ Reply | More ]

I would definitely talk to the daycare. On the one hand, she may not notice that she's not having the bottle, because everything else is different. But on the other, it's a new environment and it might be hard for her not to have the familiar thing to fall asleep with... I suspect it's not going to be an issue, but run it by them. Surely they've encountered something similar before. [ Reply | More ]

I would just go with what works for you. I stopped the bottle at 15 months, and ds adjusted really easily (I told him we were now going to use a "special blue cup." I had been diluting the formula for a while, so by that time it was a cup of water anyway. I never CIO'd, and truthfully ds did not sleep well till he was 2 and a half, so if your dd is doing 12 hours a night, I might not mess with it, except very gradual weaning. [ Reply | More ]

It was formula (ds was dairy sensitive) and diluted milk sounds kind of yucky. At that point ds was not falling asleep with the bottle though (I sang him to sleep, so bottle doesn't sound so bad!), so it's a different situation. Try the gradual thing and see if it works though. And I wouldn't worry about what's too old (except for milk and teeth, when she gets a few more). It all works out. I'm sure people would have told me that because I didn't CIO and because I sometimes took him back to my bed tha ds would never sleep alone through the night, and he sleeps great now. At that age she is ready to switch to a sippy cup. Try avent with soft spout. In any case milk or juice at bedtime is a bad idea for dental health. This is a good time to make these transitions. She may be distressed for a bit at daycare and angry with you but she will certainly sleep eventually. Offer comfort and your arms but neither sweet drink nor bottle. [ Reply | More ]
