[ - ] I can still ferberize my 14 months old ds? He used to get tired and sleep at 7:30pm but lately we would refuse to go down after a bottle. My hushbad and I always ended up rocking him for 30mins - 1 hour before he goes to sleep. 2 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

That's the same pattern with my ds. He went down by 7:30pm before 14-15mo. Then he became more active - wanting to read, sing, be held and later totally refused to go into his crib. Things improved after we took the crib out and got him a twin size mattress. He's willing to get into bed but we now have to pretend sleeping with him until he's out. We ferberized him several times before he was one but after that we never have the heart to do it due to 1) it's not effective after moving, traveling or sickness, which requires repeating the training 2) we don't think it's natural for babies to cried themselves to sleep. [ - ] My one year old db doesn't really feed himself. He CAN, he just doesn't. I end up putting the food in his mouth because I want him to eat something, otherwise he would just sit in the chair and ignore what is in front of him. I know he CAN do it because I've seen him. Is this common? Should I stop feeding him so that he is forced to do it himself or is it OK for now? 10 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

He probably likes the interaction with you more than the eating. Why don't you sit beside him & eat your own sandwich, you can chat to him but eat at the same time & when you are finished take the food away. Eventually he will learn that when he is in the high chair it is eating time not playing time. [ Reply | More ]

Give him time, he has the rest of his life, there is no race to get him to eat now. Does he still eat jarred food? Just treat the finger foods as a fun, developmental activity (or a science experiment) and after 10 mins or so go ahead and feed him the jarred stuff. [ Reply | More ]

np: whoa, whoa. Don't do that? Why would you force feed your child? No good will come of that. Please get Ellyn Satter's book (Child of Mine). It can really help. And in a nutshell, feed him what you're eatng, eat together as a family, put the food out and let him feed himself. You are not in charge or how much he eats or if he eats at all. [ Reply | More ]

Oh he'll grab goldfish in 2 seconds flat! It's just the real food which he's not as keen on going after. And I don't give him a lot of junk food, just goldfish on occasion when we're at a restaurant to keep him occupied. He is just turning one so he can't use a spoon, but we do give him one to play with once and a while. It's the picking up of finger foods that I'm worried about. [ Reply | More ]

mine is the same way, I give him finger foods first and then after he plays with them for a while i end up spoon feeding. I keep offering the pieces of food though and he is gradually getting better. You might try a mix of the goldfish with other foods on his tray so as he grabs for those other foods will sneak in. [ Reply | More ]

my guy was the same but by 1.2 he was totally feeding himself. I used to put the food in his hand and put his hand to his mouth and he would drop it rather than eat it. When I put it in his mouth he'd chew it right up. drove me mad! now he won't let me feed him. [ Reply | More ]

Depends on what you are looking for, Miami is a city and the hotels there are city hotels (with pools/beach but not true resorts). But there is alot to do there for a kid - besides swimming - -Miami has an aquarium, can go to south beach and look around with kids during the day/early evening. Miami is not solely for kids, but neither is NYC. [ Reply | More ]
