The point is that it does not really matter at that age. Environmental factors have a lot to do with this, and it doe snot predict any academic success. In a nutshell, nice, but not necessarily very important. [ Reply | More ]

he's in a funk this week, but overall doing very well, thanks. he'll probably never have "normal" speech, but he's learning to type and has good computer skills for a 6yo, so we're getting him a keyboard speech output device next year. kids at school like him, and that's really the most important thing to me right now. [ - ] After lots of panicking and and going back and forth I decided that I could not deal with getting braces for 2 years at age 30. It's funny, the type of person who wouldn't feel self conscious about having clear braces is the type who wouldn't bother getting braces in the first place. That was me, I still think it was worth it. Especially if you have an overbite, bite problems are more important to fix than cosmetic stuff. When I see adults with braces I don't think dork, I think brave. I find adults with wonky teeth more unsettling than adults with braces. [ Reply | More ]

I did it at 30 (for 1.5 years). It was emotionally hard, I'm not going to lie, to never feel pretty for that entire time, but so worth it to get my teeth right. They are only going to get worse, so you might as well addess it now. [ Reply | More ]

I did it with metal braces at 32! And, I had my 1st db with them on. Now 42 and am so happy i did it. my teeth look great and it's true, they only get more crooked as you get older. And crooked/bad teeth are very ageing not to mention harder to maintain the health of them. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Strange Question: almost 2 yr db has started talking about poop and potty and tonight she said to me, "mama, you pooped?" Then she began role playing. She had me lie down, she got a diaper, wipes, and she started "wiping" me (over my clothes). Is this normal? The play is normal but doing it on mommy is innapropriate, so gently guide her towards doing this on a doll, not a person. Don't shame her or tell her it's wrong, but don't model compliance in a situation like this. Don't show her that adults are OK with this kind of play. Show her it's OK for kids to do this with a doll. You can even help her set up a play "changing table" or area for her dollies and buy her some newborn diapers to put on them. But don't let her do this on you any more. Without EVER scolding because it is all natural, normal behavior for her age. [ Reply | More ]

we worried when no words at 18 months. He qaulified for EI at that poimt. got speech therapy & now talks almost normally. By 13 mo is too young. fwiw, ds did not folloe commands or use sign language of any sort (like waving bye bye0 at that age, [ Reply | More ]

13 months is too early to worry, especially if her receptive language is so strong. DS didn't have a single word (not even uh oh) until 15 months, and he's fine. I think around 18 months is when you start considering evaluation, but with this strong receptive language, just chill and enjoy. [ Reply | More ]

OP here: you know what's so interesting to me. The kids at my dc's school don't look down at all on the kids with lice. It's totally matter of fact (oh yes, XX had lice, she'll be back in tomorrow). When I think kids with lice were stigmatized as being dirty when I was a kid. [ Reply | More ]
