db's first birthday was the Friday after Thanksgiving. We did it with family as most of our friends would be spending the holiday out of town or with family. I didn't want to do it the wkd before Thanksgiving as some of my family was coming into town and the wkd after would have been anticlimatic. This year his birthday falls on Thanksgiving Day (poor guy). Not sure what we will do... [ Reply | More ]

Party at neighborhood play space (where db takes classes). Invited both family and db's "friends". Had nice lunch (fancy sandwiches, crudite, cheese tray, fruit) for adults + pizza of course. Spent a lot of money and would do it exactly the same. Yes, maybe it was for me, but the photos (hired a photographer) will be for db when she's older. [ Reply | More ]

I started with them when they opened the office (just Ross and Avvocato), and they were very swift returning my calls and I could see them within a few minutes. The practice has grown to 4 docs, and I still am able to speak with someone within 30-60 minutes of my call, and seeing doc for emergency within a few hours. I was not crazy about the office manager when they started, but I think they got that sorted out. Personally, I prefer dr. Avvocato. She is abolutely amazing, and has such a great connection with my kids. She has seen my kids since they were born (all 3 of them). Dr. Ross is great too, though. Great practice. [ Reply | More ]

NP: We use this practice too. LOVE Avvocato, haven't seen Ross, find Eisenberg OK. We started with Eisenberg as our primary and switched to Avvocato. She is always available when we need her and very good about calling back and providing real, substantive info over the phone as well as letting you know if you need to come in. The office is very well run, IMO. Phone calls are returned quickly and I have never had a long wait for an appt. The longest wait I ever had was 20 minutes when we were squeezed in for a sick appt same day during the after school rush. Highly recommend. [ Reply | More ]

I've been watching this post, as I'm wondering if ped was specific about type of brown sugar. Regular (baking type)brown sugar is refined white, reconstituted with molasses. The molasses is what creates bowel motility and is what our family has used for generations. I've never given such a young infant molasses and know that such high iron may be difficult to process. Since baby is formula fed, it's likely there are some digestive issues already. Has all the meconium passed? There may be residual meconium which the ped can gently irrigate. [ Reply | More ]

btw-I'm not pushing a bf manifesto; I'm simply stating that oral feeding is brand new in an 11day old and formula may be rich and complicated to digest. [ Reply | More ]

We also did that, but our doctor told us to mix it into water (not formula or breastmilk). It works after a day (at the latest). If that doesn't work, our doctor told us to manually stimulate his anus (very gently with a baby thermometer covered with lub). [ Reply | More ]
