does anyone know about fibroids? my coworker just found out she has them. How serious are fibroids? How extensive is the treatment for getting them out? What are the risks? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

really varies. My mom has had them for years with no symptoms and no probs. Other people have trouble with them [ Reply | More ]

They aren't serious. I had a bad case, and needed surgery because I was hemorraging (literally) each month. It was major surgery, but nothing extraordinary. [ Reply | More ]

range from asymptomatic to needing a hysterectomy. Depends on number, size and if they are growing. They often just cause heavier menstruation [ Reply | More ]

she will probably have them removed. I had 1 done under general (hysceroscopy?). It was growing and they didn't want to let it get too big (this was pre-db's) [ Reply | More ]

Depends how big they are. I know people who had successful pgs with fibroids. Others needed major surgery to get them out and then a year for recovery before ttc. [ Reply | More ]

not serious in the vast majority of cases. most women have them and don't even know it. when you reach menopause, they usually shrink and become a nonissue. if doc wants to remove, she should get a second opinion [ Reply | More ]

I think uterine fibroids are fairly common. Found out I have them too and never knew it. Doc says it's more trouble to have mine removed. [ Reply | More ]

it depends on how severe. i had them removed and had sucessful pg afterwards. it really isn't just if they are big or not...depends on if they are in the uterus or not [ Reply | More ]

I've had one for over 15 years. When I got pregnant it got significantly larger. As a bonus, it shrank after the pregnancy. They frequently advise not to remove them as it could scar uterus etc. and be problematic for future pgcy. [ Reply | More ]
