[ - ] Feels like bedtime is the equivalent of going to war. 2.4yo twin boys. Wrestling match to get them t take a bath. Wrestling match to get into diapers. Wrestling match to get into pajamas. Full scale war to brush their teeth. Want to read different books. Want to sing different songs. They are driving me mad! When will they start growing out of this? This is actually a serious question. 2 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Why not decide to be ok with them doing things the way they want. I really don't get why parents feel like they have to control / battle their kids so much. Life is too freakin' short! Enjoy it! Seriously, I hope you find solutions that work for your family, with whatever limitations you have, I'm just advocating a (radical) change in perspective... [ Reply | More ]

we went public with a fall ds. were worried like you are now. cannot tell you how well it has worked out. private schools have brainwashed us to believe K kids need to be 6 going on 7 to succeed. my ds has absolutely blossomed with the demands of K, and cannot imagine him sitting in preschool now waiting for K. he was shy and that too has changed for the better. i have now come to believe the worry, coddling and holding back is absolutely wrong and counter development [ Reply | More ]

we put our dd in public 2 weeks before cut off as well - I really want her to repeat...being the youngest presents a variety of issues. She is able to "keep up" but if she had been born 2 weeks later she would be able to soar vs just "keep up" - competing with children who are 11 1/2 months older is rough on a lot of level - even when a child is smart and well liked...simple physical and developmental issues are not in synch. here's the problem. I already made this decision last year and held him back in the 3's (we moved to the burbs late in school year so he wasn't really repeateing the year) so he hasn't done pre-k yet. The thing is, he gets homework that's kindergarten level. Academically I was told he wouldn't really be missing anything but I'm kicking myself for being "so sure" last year. My dh and I couldn't find any advantage of him being the youngest but now I"m questioning it and going crazy! [ Reply | More ]

oh I get it. He could skip from 3's to k. As someone who resents all the kids who turned 6in the fall, while my ds turned FIVE in Dec., I say send him. BUt you have to feel good about your decision. I'll be honest, everyone has an opinion so it's a 50-50 chance of what they'll say. I"ve already polled so many people and so many simply believe in holding them back and some don't. Now with my son, some don't, his teacher says how smart he is but she can see why I was concerned socially. But I'm sure if he was in pre-k all year with those kids, he would've been fine. oh well... We did a week last summer at Animal Kingdom Lodge, with a 4yo and a 7mo and it was fun. They have a zero entry pool that my 8mo could play in while the 4yo play with her dad and new friends. We're not the dash out in the morning people and spent plenty of time in the hotel doing storytime, decorating cookies at "Boma" one of the restuarants and joining the evening parade through the lobby. I did this once on a larger radius, using (I think) US News & World Report high school rankings. Basically, think Long Island. There are a whole bunch of excellent schools out there. If you want rural, too, you have to go pretty far from NYC. Like two hours far. Nyack schools are good, as is the one in Cold Spring. [ Reply | More ]

I have also heard Basking Ridge Schools are excellent - and that area of NJ (past Morristown) is very pretty although I don't know if the people are crunchy. South Orange/Maplewood/Montclair schools get mixed reviews so look in to them before buying carefully but there are nice old houses and people are at least in theory a little bit more crunchy - although, my friends there are not necessarilly crunchy. I would have to do more research before commiting myself. Irvington, in Westchester is also supposed to have great schools and be sort of artsy. Places with worse commutes that feel rural are Pennington, NJ and Easton, CT. So nice in both! [ Reply | More ]

I tell them it takes 4 people for a divorce to go smoothly- the spouses and the lawyers. If any one of them want to make it difficult, it easily gets ugly. Its a process, and even in the best circumstances with people who get along, there is always the potential for nastiness. Its so much easier said than done, but you need to pace yourself for the worst and hope for the best. Dont let anyone (your dh, your lawyer) bully you, be strong. Its your life. You dont need to get dragged into something ugly. You can achieve the results you need without stooping to his level. Do you both have lawyers? Has someone initiated the action? [ Reply | More ]

yes, but go ahead and ask if there are any extra seats when you are checking in. they are usually veyr nice to people with babies, and might be able to give you a seat for db. then, just gate check the stroller base, and bring car seat onboard. [ Reply | More ]

op: I just checked and the flight is completelty full. I was really hoping there would be an extra seat. It would be nice to have the baby sleep in his car seat! [ Reply | More ]

i would go ahead and still ask when checking in. that happened to us (and I was too cheap to buy ticket) but for whatever reason, once we were seated with baby in lap, they ended up moving someone around so db had a seat. [ Reply | More ]

My bil/sil live there. We visit every summer. I just love the colonial architecture and the small town feeling. The 4th of July parade down mainstreet is wonderful. Both towns have very good high schools. Nice ditance from Boston, so commuting is good. Cohasset ahs a beautiful town beach. Both towns have great sailing clubs with summer programs for kids [ Reply | More ]

I'm in Cohasset. Great newcomers club. Have been here one year and have made tons of mom friends. Very friendly. Train line just started to Boston. Farmers market in summer. [ Reply | More ]

With all due respect, I remember my college friend from Belmont telling me that Cohasset was very snooty. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] I know MIL doesn't approve that I SAH, even though she did and her daughter does. I know it's because DH doesn't make a ton of money (about 130). I just think that I'd rather be home and sacrifice vacations and etc. 12 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

i know it does, that's why i don't say anything to DH about it. unfortunately, it's not like we can't take their money. Even if we had that option, we'd use it for something else. The money is in DH's name, it is a trust account [ Reply | More ]

she probably thinks that her son is taking on too big of a burden. she either doesnt care that her SIL is or he makes more money. $130K is not a lot of money in the NY area but if you and DH are ok with this then she needs ot MHOB [ Reply | More ]

SIL's husband is a IB so he makes a ton of money. i am sure she is worried because DH is not that successful. we are not saving a lot, but we are able to squeak by. we are hoping to buy a house that will keep us comfortable. [ Reply | More ]
