UB is pretty useless for these issues. I never visit BAbycenter but they have a board for Gifted Children (and Gifted preschooler) where moms of gifted kids (of all degrees but they definitely have some PG moms) discuss their issues. Davidson Institute board would be better suited for PG specific things, of course. My dc is EG, exceptionally gifted, which is one level below PG, not making 99.9th percentile but above 99th percentile. My kid doesn't have anxiety issues but have other OE issues. [ Reply | More ]

it's pretty hard to spend extra time with 2yo but i am giving her one on one time whenever baby is sleeping. ironically when nb is sleeping, she's calm, it's when when nb is up that she's really freaky. of course, that's understandable but frustrating nevertheless. we do have a sitter 3 mornings a week. I have 2dc 21 months apart eldest now 2.5yo and he was (and still is on occasion) exactly the same as your toddler. We found it really helped him if we kept him involved with everything so he didn't feel neglected. We give him jobs like fetching diapers, wipes and we encourage very closely supervised physical contact between them ie gentle pats on the head. It started getting easier when the newborn started smiling as he became more interesting to the toddler. I still don't get any sleep but it's getting better. GL [ Reply | More ]

OK-we had almost exact situation and this is what I did...left nb at home every morning for a week and took 3 yo to starbucks for girl time...we sat around and talked about how great it was that we had Maria at home so we could leave baby at home and get out (she was also being mean to our nanny) --she would say "yes, we're grown up and can go out together and baby has to stay home and nap" --obviously, i had the help to allow this but after one week everything fixed itself and she has been great since..loving her little brother and very well behaved. You and dh have got to work together to help with newborn and let the other completely focus on the older outside of the house making her feel special. As for the totally exhausted thing, we're finally well rested at 7 months! Unfortunately, there is not a fix for that! [ Reply | More ]

I wanted to learn a little more about it. Ds will turn 5 in october and missers the private cutoffs. We originally thought we would only consider gifted programs and if we do not make any just wait the year for private. We were nixed at hunter round 2 and do not think the 98 sb will get us into any of the g & ts we like. I didn't say ALL Kindergarteners, but when I toured TTs, all of them said some come in reading and some come in beginning to read and some don't read at all. When I said many, I didn't mean most but there are enough kids who are reading already that they stock these advanced books in Kindergarten book nooks. If you think about it, some kids are redshirted, so they're older anyway. Plus, many kids have top ERB scores and like Hunter that said some come in reading and some don't, you will see similar cases. I don't know about other schools. [ Reply | More ]
