[ - ] My son had a diaper rash that I believe may have been a yeast infection. It was little blisters and bright red skin. It began to get better, but then he got a stomach bug and had terrible diarrhea for 24 hours. Because it hurt, he wouldn't say anything right away after he pooped, and so it sat on his bum too long sometimes. He was up all night screaming in pain, and today, in spite of our constant vigilance with gentle cleaning, antibiotic/pain relief cream, and triple paste, it's worse, with closely-clustered hard white bumps all over his bum, pudendum, scrotum and on his foreskin. What is going on??? 13 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

[ - ] WWYD? 5 yo dd was invited to a classmate's birthday party next Sunday. She has dance recital pictures at the same time. She really wants to go to the birthday party, and I don't really care about the pictures. She's one of the youngest in her class and some of the other girls are already starting to get cliquey. I'd love for her to socialize with them more. Problem is that the birthday party is a pool party. DD doesn't know how to swim. She'll get in, jump in (as long as she can touch bottom), play, etc. But she can't swim. Is this just going to make it worse for her? She's taking swim lessons again this summer (she took them last summer and finally put her face in the water). WWYD? 14 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Thanks, but I think it would make it worse to put a floaty on her. I never see kids older than 3 in floaties around here. There are 5 yo on the swim team in our neighborhood and they have to try out because there are more swimmers than spots on the team. [ Reply | More ]

A post provides only limited information, but you seem overly worried about what the other kids and their mothers think about your DD. My 5 yo would never notice what other people think of her, and I don't think she's "poorly socialized." She's just 5. She doesn't swim, and the floaty lets her move around freely. It's also really given her the drive to learn how to swim, since she's experienced the freedom. Enjoy your child's strengths, and support her weaknesses until she's ready to strike out on her own. Private, or Public, if anyone has a child who is eager to learn more, or you simply just want your child to be confident going into any school, check out Reading In Preschool. It's an incredible tutoring service that teaches ages 3 and up how to read at an early age. Don't make the mistake of waiting to teach your child and expect them to learn everything the easy way when they go into 1st grade. By the time they're in 1st grade, they are mostly taught sight words, and thrown new words to learn how to read and spell every week. Help them by giving the gift of understanding phonics and sight words earlier on, so that by the time they go into 1st grade, they get it and are confident. [ Reply | More ]
