My son had a diaper rash that I believe may have been a yeast infection. It was little blisters and bright red skin. It began to get better, but then he got a stomach bug and had terrible diarrhea for 24 hours. Because it hurt, he wouldn't say anything right away after he pooped, and so it sat on his bum too long sometimes. He was up all night screaming in pain, and today, in spite of our constant vigilance with gentle cleaning, antibiotic/pain relief cream, and triple paste, it's worse, with closely-clustered hard white bumps all over his bum, pudendum, scrotum and on his foreskin. What is going on??? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

You certainly know your anatomy terms! Take him to the ped. Maybe he needs a prescription for the yeast infection [ Reply | More ]

This is worth a call to the ped. In the meantime, naked bottom as much as possible. No cream. Just air. Clean with water and a soft cloth. [ Reply | More ]

If he's in that much pain, you're not going to get much sleep anyway. Put him down on multiple towels or layers of diapers. Remove as they get wet. So sorry. I've had a lot of experience with yeast diaper rash, but I've never seen the hard white bumps you are describing. [ Reply | More ]

I just went in, took off his diaper, laid down a layer of towels, and am letting him air out. We don't have a ped in NYC yet, so this is the best we can do. [ Reply | More ]

You can call my pediatrician. The practice of Drs. Finkelman and Silverblatt. They won't know that you aren't a current patient. They probably wouldn't mind, but don't tell them. 718-858-4924. You may not get either one of them since they share call with a few other Brooklyn practices. Good luck. [ Reply | More ]

^^^ It doesn't sound life-threatening, but if he doesn't have to spend another night in pain, that would be best. [ Reply | More ]

At your ped's office. They have people on call. 10:30 isn't that late. I would call. [ Reply | More ]

every ped. has a doc on call. call the regular number and their answering service will ask if you want the doctor paged and say yes. if not then go to the ER first thing in the morning. also try mixing baking soda with mylanta or pepto bismol to form a paste and apply to infected area to soothe . Give him Tylenol or Motrin for the pain - every 4 hours, like with a fever. Air him out - I agree with the sleeping naked thing. [ Reply | More ]
