He can read now (learned in K) but still HATES it. I make him read 20 mins a night and it's a struggle every night. I don't enjoy reading so maybe it's genetic. I turned out just fine. You do realize that early reading is not an indication of intelligence or school success. (Math is more strongly correlated). Lots of parents push their kids to read early and that can backfire. Just keep reading to him that is the best you can do. FWIW, I knew how to rad before entering K, my sister did not - not until 1. She has a much higher IQ than I. [ Reply | More ]

younger brother was arrested in college for a drunken fight. He is VERY VERY lucky that the other guy did not press charges. He was suspended from the college for 18mo (and ended up transferring). Other bro was arrested for having a handgun on our property we own in upstate NY. Handgun was registered to my SIL, bro didn't have a permit. Ick. Mess. Now all cleared up. [ Reply | More ]

DH was arrested in 2004, at a bike rally before the Republican convention. Charges were dropped though and nothing ever came of it. He got 150 dollars to write about it for the Village Voice and he's part of a class-action lawsuit against the city that might get him a few thousand dollars eventually. [ Reply | More ]
