When people ask you where your dc will be headed to for Kindergarten, and you say either Hunter or TT private, do you get total silence after you answer? TT private and I get total silence. I wish nobody asked me anymore. I am starting to feel bad. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

When I say citywide or private I get the same response. Would be nice if people no longer asked. I've stopped talking about it except on UB. (as a side note I don't live in Manhattan so couldn't apply to Hunter). [ Reply | More

Do you really say "TT private," or just the name of the school. My DC go to a highly coveted lottery school, and I always tack on "we're so lucky" after I say where they go. Not quite the same, but an acknowledgement that I'm not all stuck on myself. [ Reply | More

I don't want to name the school so I said TT here. I say private. But people ask "oh, which one?" and I have to answer which (one of the TTs). I don't know but nobody stops at private. [ Reply | More

of course they don't stop. they're asking b/c they want to know the details, and you're not giving it to them the first time around. just avoid this middle man step and say Hunter and XYZ school. [ Reply | More

Ah, so sorry! I completely took it the wrong way. That hasn't happened to me either or I haven't noticed it. I have had people come right out and say they don't believe in private and they prefer the real world for their kids. I wouldn't never say something like that to them. [ Reply | More

np. This would be my guess as well. We get similar reactions to what OP describes. But we live downtown and dc is going to an uptown SS school w/ uniforms. People react negatively to the SS thing, the uniform, that it's private, it's traditional, you name it. It's not an issue of envy. [ Reply | More

Private, or Public, if anyone has a child who is eager to learn more, or you simply just want your child to be confident going into any school, check out Reading In Preschool. It's an incredible tutoring service that teaches ages 3 and up how to read at an early age. Don't make the mistake of waiting to teach your child and expect them to learn everything the easy way when they go into 1st grade. By the time they're in 1st grade, they are mostly taught sight words, and thrown new words to learn how to read and spell every week. Help them by giving the gift of understanding phonics and sight words earlier on, so that by the time they go into 1st grade, they get it and are confident. [ Reply | More
