[ - ] I can not get dh to abide by any separation rules, except that he doesn't sleep here. No matter what I say he is here in the morning, stays all day (weekends), leaves when dc go to bed. Sometimes it's tolerable, most times I am irritated. He just does whatever the hell he wants at all times. Oh- unless there is something better to do. Then he goes out and I'm happy. If he wants to stay married and keep his home you'd think he'd apologize for his affair, stop their "friendship", go to counseling and work at it. But no, and I wouldn't take him back now anyway. 6 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Thanks- I look forward to that. I can't believe I married someone who would just toss me aside like he has. I lost my job this week, he was here (of course) and barely had anything to say in consolation. Nobody would treat a stranger that way, yet that's how he treats me. So you can see why I feel great when he's not around... [ Reply | More ]

because they expose their children to a world of knowledge at an early age, using tutors for everything. If you have a child who is eager to learn to read and doesn't want to wait until 1st grade which is when children really start being given the exposure to reading, look into Reading In Preschool. It's a great tutoring service that teaches children ages 3 to 8 how to read. They also teach math as well. [ Reply | More ]

Just spoke to my dd's preschool teacher about this last week - some of the moms in the class mentioned their dcs had been reading since age 3 (mine is just starting at age 5). She said its better for a child to be midrange. Super smart kids have a hard time fitting in especially down the road. It was very eye opening. [ Reply | More ]

It just means they learned to read early. There is the "great leveling out" at 3rd grade. That's when early readers fade to average (for many) and the "behind" kids catch up and everyone is even [ Reply | More ]

Reading In Preschool offers summer intensives for early reading and math. It's a great time for a child to get ahead, plus with all the fun that's going on in the summer, it's a good idea to have the learning something educational so they don't lose what they learnt earlier on. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] What would you do? DS is 3 yo. Just getting assessed and all are showing pot language processing issues (about 9-12 mo) delays with speech and some SI issues (flapping). Dev ped suspects mild PDD but the person who did the in-class eval does not. DS likes people, has friends who he talks about, interacts with DH and I. Main symptoms are language (speaks a lot, but mainly just in 2 or 3 word sentences), a lot of echolia (sp), and varied eye contact, plus the flapping (only when excited). DH and I don't know if we should go down the intensive ABA, etc route, or "just" do intensive speech, OT and PT. Are they very different? What would you do? BTW, this is just SO tough. Thanks for any help. 6 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

it is tough. We are in the same place. dc gets ST, OT and may start ABA this summer. i say look into everything and try the different therapies. they don't harm the child at all. In fact mine really loves all the therapists. if you feel a therapy is not useful yo ucan always stop it. [ Reply | More ]

You do not need to do intensive ABA (per se) - you can do Special Instruction instead. Not all children need ABA. My DS is also 3 and our dev. ped. specifically said no ABA when I asked. She told me to just do special instruction (he also gets speech and OT). I would work with the dev. ped. to figure out a game plan in terms of the types of services and the amounts to get. Your DS might not need 30 hours of therapy every week...every child is different, and it really all depends on his challenges. GL! [ Reply | More ]

^^P.S. the reason our dev. ped. told us our DS didn't need ABA is because he can learn naturally, so he didn't need the ABA system of having things broken down into smaller pieces. ABA can be great, but it really depends on your child. Don't necessarily assume that your DC needs it. And even if your DC has a mild case of PDD, with therapy in two years, he might drop the diagnosis, or be so mild, it really doesn't interfere with this life. Bump up the speech if you can though - IMO it's the most important thing b/c it impacts social skills as well. We do 5 hours a week (EI and private) [ Reply | More ]
