[ - ] Anyone have a high nuchal screen measurement with a good outcome? Had NTT this morning and won't have bloodwork until Fri. Nuchal measurement was 2.8 which seems very high to me and I am really freaking out. Any reassurance is appreciated, thanks. 5 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I was never told a measurement. I was told my age-related risk vs. my actual risk after they did the fold measurements via ultrasound (which my odds went in a worse direction). I have yet to find out blood tests results since I'm doing the integrated screen and I won't have them for another few days since I have to take the second blood test tomorrow. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] These are the things that I judge other mothers for: 1) giving birth without meds??? Why god's sake? Get over yourself, no one cares how selfless you are. 2)breastfeeding a child over hte age of 12 mos. Gross. You are a totally dependant person who cannot let go and you need a life. Plus it is seriously icky to see a child, not a baby, a child sucking on your boob. 3) Super Anti-TV moms. If you want to limit fine, but raising a child to never be exposed to TV is first of all naive, becuase they will have friends and they will watch at their houses and it is raising a child who will regularly get his ass kicked on the playground for being such a nerdy loser becuase he isn't up on whatever the hell kids are up on at that time. 4) overly pretentious moms who feel the need to waste money on stupid nonsense that is supposed to be for the kid but really only impresses other motners i.e. bugaboos, designer clothes for infants and toddlers, etc. ...and last but not least...5) crazy obsesive private school parents who start worrying and planning before the kid is even born and start "tutoring" their kids on the exams before they can even sit up on their own. Wheeh! I have wanted to get that off my chest forever! 56 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

The breastfeeding thing is really confusing to me. The thing is, if your kid is really begging for your boob, I can see where mom's that wouldn't have thought they'd be nursing for more than a year, end up nursing. I think TV is part of our world and our culture. If you want to raise your kids in some kind of psuedo-amish throwback to a simpler time enviroment, then move to another country. Limit the shows, limit the time, all fine with me. And yes, I agree there is to much voilence and sex on TV and kids shouldn't see that. But parents who raise their kids as if they don't live in this time and this country and in this culture irk me. [ Reply | More ]

why do people who take radical approaches to things think that middle of the road people are boring and wrong. Isn't is logical, esp. in hte area of child rearing, that no one person is correct and thus an approach that is somewhat in the middle and incorporates a little of everything is better than taking a black and white approach to things? When it comes to raising kids I think bland and conformist is better than radical, out of the box ways that make you a social pariah. [ Reply | More ]

np: only some of the op's issues are child-rearing issues. also, choosing a "radical" approach in one area does not mean you are a radically parenting. and lastly, as someone who the op would think is a quack-job, i can say that i don't think mainstream is boring. i'm very secure in my decisions and my parenting. i don't have anything against the mainstream. i certainly don't go around judging them and thinking their decisions are wrong. my issues with the op aren't her decisions in raising her children, it's her judgement of people who do things differently. 1) I had 2 kids with no meds and it was not "selfless" at all, I did it for completely selfish reasons: I was more comfortable that way. I don't brag about it, nor do I think less of anyone else based on her birth choices. 2) I breastfed 1st DC until 18 months. That happened to be the best time for our particular nursing relationship to end. I don't give a rat's ass what you or anyone else thinks about it, and fortunately it is my legal right to nurse wherever I want. And I don't judge other moms, whether they nurse for 3 days or 3 years. 3) My kid watches tons of TV, but I think no-TV moms are gutsy and bravo to them. 4) I don't have the budget for designer stuff personally, but perhaps those who do are just drawn to innately good-quality stuff that satisfies their aesthetic sense. It doesn't always have to be about status. 5) I'll give you this one. [ Reply | More ]

np DD had surgery and the surgeon said there is no proof that stuff works. He said there had been studies where they rubbed a scar with regular lotion and myderma and both healed equally well.
