Going overnight on a business trip next month. Can I bring home pumped milk in my carry on? If not, how do I pack it and FedEx it? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I would check with the airline, but I think breastmilk is ok. [ Reply | More ]

clearly you are someone who never pumped, or for whom pumping is easy. when you are struggling to get those ounces out, it's painful to throw them away [ Reply | More ]

I'm thinking that I have to pump it anyway, why would I want to throw it away? You probably use plastic water bottles with BPA in them. [ Reply | More ]

FWIW - plastic water bottles are PETE (polyethylene terephthalate, no BPA there) [ Reply | More ]

Yes, go the the TSA website (tsa.gov, I think) and print out the guidelines so you can prove it to the security personnell if necessary. But, it is legal to carry breastmilk aboard the plane whether or not db is with you. Just bring a cooler and you should be all set. [ Reply | More ]

I just looked, and it doesn't say anything about traveling without db. [ Reply | More ]

OK - here's the link. Very clearly states you can bring unlimited quantities of bm on planes with or without the baby. GL http://www.tsa.gov/press/releases/2007/press_release_07202007.shtm [ Reply | More ]

Honestly, it will be so much easier on you if you pump and dump while you're away. I went on a short trip and kept the milk, and storing/transporting was a huge PIA, as was trying to clean the pump out sufficiently in a hotel sink and on the road. [ Reply | More ]

there was an article in the ny times a couple of years ago about a woman who tried this and was not allowed to bring the milk on the plane without the baby. i think she ended up shipping the milk separately. the one time i had to do this i pumped and dumped, which i hated to do. [ Reply | More ]
