I'm reading a book about science called The Canon by Natalie Angier who writes for the NY Times. She recommends getting a dissecting microscope (also called a stereo microscope) which magnifies about 40 times and is good for looking at everyday items. (not the Discovery Store kind of toy microscope or the kind that magnifies a hundredfold). They run several hundred dollars. [ Reply | More ]

DH is worried somebody would sue us personally if something happened with the car. Has anybody ever successfully sued a vehicle owner for an accident just because they lent out their car?? Even if there is no case law on point, that doesn't mean that you won't get sued and be stuck with legal bills. But most people have their nannies driving for them, and I don't view it as a high risk activity (and I am a lawyer). [ Reply | More ]

my dd is 8yr old. She doesn't have these exact moments but when she does loose it, I will take away her playdate. I let her yell, cry and stomp, ect and when she's calm I sit with her and talk about why she lost her playdate. My friends 7yr old sounds a lot like your dd but my friend gives in. She doesn't want to deal with the screams and tears so she just gives in. Stick by your decisions and talk with her. She shouldn't be acting like a 3yr old [ Reply | More ]

My standard summer shoe is Skechers Biker Sightsee. They are nearly as supportive as a sneaker, nearly as cool as sandals, well-cushioned, and look like athletic-style ballet flats. I don't think Zappos has them right now. I just ordered a pair from the Skechers site. [ Reply | More ]

Stone Fly sandals...made in Italy. Many are too "comfy" to be good looking, but there are a few pairs that are very nice and it is rare to find cute sandals like they have with good arch support. Any of the thong styles are worth considering..dream 22, eden, etc. Those are much better looking in person than on Zappos...maybe get a brown and a black pair. Also, look at Helle. I lived in their clogs this winter. Nike Gs are comfy, but not so good for tons and tons of walking...less support [ Reply | More ]
