any lawyer moms on? We are thinking of getting an au pair. She would need to drive and we'd put her on our car insurance. DH is worried somebody would sue us personally if something happened with the car. Has anybody ever successfully sued a vehicle owner for an accident just because they lent out their car?? (Obviously our insurance rates would go up, but just wondering about personal liability [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Even if there is no case law on point, that doesn't mean that you won't get sued and be stuck with legal bills. But most people have their nannies driving for them, and I don't view it as a high risk activity (and I am a lawyer). [ Reply | More ]

thanks. You know, you just made me worry about something else...her suing us for something that goes wrong with the car....I'm getting paranoid with age (but we have a lot of savings which makes us more of a target) [ Reply | More ]

I am a lot like you, and you just have to let it go. Anyone could sue you for anything -- life is too short to worry all the time. [ Reply | More ]

I'm a lawyer. This is what your liability insurance is for on your car insurance. It's fine. [ Reply | More ]
