To ease your mind, there is cause for concern if there is more than a 50 percentile DIFFERENCE between height and weight. If she were, say, 25 percentile for height and 80 percentile for weight, it's time to put on the brakes. But since she's exactly the same percentile for height and weight, as long as she is eating healthy foods, she's fine. [ Reply | More ]

You get free breakfast (including eggs to order, etc, etc, pool in the hotel..good distraction from site seeing. so let's say you are netting 5k. is that before or after taxes? before or after health insurance? (i have a similar income and i'm trying to figure out how much of our deductions you have as well). basically, on 5k net we can easily put 2k or even 2500 towards a house. so assuming something like 700 per month to pay for 100k borrowed, on 2500/month you can borrow under 350k. so i'd say that you can safely get a 300k mortgage, plus your down payment puts you at about 375k purchase price. and i'm not saying this is what the banks will loan you, but this is what you can probably afford to pay. good luck. Do you know your credit score? If your score is anywhere below 650 then you should really just concentrate on getting your credit score up, IMHO. I'd give yourself one more year. use one credit card and buy groceries on it and pay it off every single month. This will help to improve your credit score. Pay every single bill on time and check your score in a year. If you don't add any new debt and keep everything paid off, I think your score will improve a lot. Congrats on pulling it up from 400K. Can I ask, though, how you've got 90K in savings but had such poor credit? Mostly, poor credit comes from not paying on time and if you had money in savings ,how did that happen? [ Reply | More ]

np: i'd go and get preapproved for a mortgage. there's a fee but you'll have an idea of what the banks will loan you. then start looking. the difference in mortgage can end up being a lot to pay but you'll probably still be looking in the same ballpark. [ Reply | More ]

I agree with the above advice to work on improving your credit instead of buying. But, the rule of thumb (for when you ARE ready to buy) is to get a mortgage of 3x HHI (180K for you), assuming no other regular payments, like credit card debt. Add your down payment, and that's what you can afford. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] 3 yr old was fooling around at dinner - putting food in his water, banging silverwear, dropping them on the floor and generally being obnoxious. after a number of warnings - we said he was done. 2-0 minutes later he was clammeing for desert 9which is usually fruit) and we said no. (I did say if he was hungry he could have milk - which he rejected as "not food'). he was having a total meltdown. now he is in the bath - but I expect meltdown to resume and that it will result in a very late bedtime. DH wants to cave and offer him some fruit before bed and I say no way! His table manners have been horrible and every meal has been a messy nightmare lately. WWYD? 16 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

The one thing I can't stomach (pardon the pun) is a hungry kid. I would give him fruit and next time make the consequence something non food related. [ Reply | More ]

If you truly think he is hungry, offer him the rest of dinner. This is not quite consistent, but it would be mean to let him go truly hungry. [ Reply | More ]

So NO WAY it's not even funny. Why would you go through all you went through already and then cave? What kind of a lesson is that? "If you stick it out long enough, they'll eventually cave. Next time: Six hours." [ Reply | More ]

i'd say that if he's hungry he can have a piece of cheese. (or bread, or whatever you ate for supper). if he persists, say calmly that he can not have dessert b/c he did not sit nicely at dinner but that if he's hungry, he can have cheese (or bread). [ Reply | More ]

i'd offer one of them. not as a punishment ("eat what's left of your dinner!") but as an option if he's hungry. but definitely don't cave on the dessert issue. and again, make it an option for him, not a punishment or an angry thing. [ Reply | More ]

in our house if you can not follow the rules and be polite you are given a warning and then after that you are sent to bed immediately following the meal. it usually works because if you are sent to bed you are missing the board games we play as a family every night and also any snack you might be given. If he'll do that, he might do a neti pot. It's pretty late to get one now, but try it next time he gets a cold. Warm saline is better than cold. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Immediate help needed: What's the best tutu dress you've ever seen or alternatively, one of those really full gorgeous tutus that my 5 y.o. can wear instead of a dress to a party? She's insisting on wearing a tutu, and the one she has is all glittery and princessy. Too ridiculous. I feel like if I find the right one, it might be okay. Please don't hate on me - suggestions only. TIA. 8 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]
