Help me here - a child 6 wks away from her 8th birthday should have some amount of perspective, right? She had a playdate yesterday and has one scheduled for tomorrow. Flipped out today b/c we ate lunch w/friends and I did not allow her to go home with them. The fact that she has a playdate tomorrow was no consolation. Right now she's yelling that no one cares about her b/c dinner is something she doesn't like. Anyone on who has survived a 7 y.o.? Is this normal? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

my dd is 8yr old. She doesn't have these exact moments but when she does loose it, I will take away her playdate. I let her yell, cry and stomp, ect and when she's calm I sit with her and talk about why she lost her playdate. My friends 7yr old sounds a lot like your dd but my friend gives in. She doesn't want to deal with the screams and tears so she just gives in. Stick by your decisions and talk with her. She shouldn't be acting like a 3yr old [ Reply | More ]

i never give in - but i rarely really talk with her about it. i just tell her the irrational behavior must occur in her bedroom and she can come out when she's done. [ Reply | More ]

I find that when my dd calms down from whatever is upsetting her, we talk and she realizes (and I do) why she was wrong (and why I was wrong if I was). [ Reply | More ]
