sigh. My point is that often people take them when they should very well learn to deal with sadness and loss in life. I think they are wonderful when really needed. I think OP is right that we don't accept sadness as a part of life anymore. We want to wish it away. I also had a friend who was suicidal and took them. I am happy they were available for her.
