I'd get a second opinion, but my Dad did get braces as an adult. He was having serious periodontal problems that were just going to get worse if he didn't fix his teeth (his family couldn't afford braces for him when he was growing up). He got braces when he was in his mid-40's and we were teenagers. We were merciless and now I really regret being so mean to him.
