I just came from the orthodontist who says I need "regular" braces - no invisiline - for two years. it isn't a cosmetic thing. he says that my bottom teeth which are crowded will break in the coming years if I don't address the problems. I have never had a dental problem before and I'm 40... Braces ?!! Anyone done this ? Vanity is screaming that I can't do this !Suggestions ? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I'd get a second opinion, but my Dad did get braces as an adult. He was having serious periodontal problems that were just going to get worse if he didn't fix his teeth (his family couldn't afford braces for him when he was growing up). He got braces when he was in his mid-40's and we were teenagers. We were merciless and now I really regret being so mean to him. Do it now, before your DCs are old enough to make you miserable and your dental problems get worse. [ Reply | More

I'm getting a second opinion... If it were only a cosmetic issue I would say no, but the thought of breaking and chipping teeth and bigger problems is too scary... but God... I already feel like Marsha Brady when she got braces ! [ Reply | More
