I can imagine this would be really hard, but most successful people have had a huge failure at one point. Try to use it as a springboard to your next success. I delivered naturally with Maureen in 2005 at St. Vincents. The entire experience was fabulous. First, I respect and adore Maureen's style and wisdom. She is a pioneer in Midwifery in NY, having been the first midwife with admitting rights at a hospital in NY over 30 years ago. She has practiced in the UK and elsewhere so is very global in her thinking and experience. The staff at St. Vincent's obviously respects her. I never saw a doctor the whole time, and had confidence I was in the care of a seasoned professional. During labor and birth, Maureen, my husband and I were undisrupted for the length of labor. I did end up having pitocin, at which point another nurse was brought on the team, and when I went into transition (30 minutes later) another nurse was brought in. Both were AMAZING, and I was so grateful. Maureen could "catch", and the other nurses supported me by holding my focus, eye contact, and words of love as I pushed. 3 Pushes and my daughter was out! Maureen was a real partner in the entire process. I found her open and loving, and tapped into the power of generations of birth wisdom. Oh, not your birkenstock wearing midwife-- she wears a lab coat for visits, and really seems like a different kind of doctor, more than how Hollywood might portray midwives. Hope that helps! I delivered with Maureen, and I had a WONDERFUL experience. Because of Maureen, I got through a completely unmedicated labor. She pushed me to have the healthiest possible pregnancy by providing great info on nutrition and exercise, and then during my labor, she was absolutely amazing! She coached me through different positions and things that I could do to progress my labor. She was 100% there for me, and you can't go wrong with her. As for St. Vincent's, I had a fair experience. The nurses during labor and delivery were great, but I had a mixed experience with the post partum nurses. Of course, my labor was during a time when all of the workers were given pay cuts, so perhaps it wasn't the best time to be there. But honestly, I feel like your provider is more important than your hospital, as the provider is the one that directs your birthing experience. [ Reply | More ]

DD just had this after 6mo shots. Ped said it was totally normal, called innoculation cyst? and it's normal for it to last a few weeks. She said it was a sign that the vaccine was working. I assume it's the same for the MMR. B/c I'm paranoid and with all the controversy around the MMR i'd probably still call ped just to double check its normal. But I think it's pretty safe to say shes fine. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Long-shot, but anyone happen to know about how much the fee would be for an architect's letter verifying that a particular wall is non-load-bearing? (Doing bathroom remodeling without an architect, leaving general footprint as-is, moving a small wall. Town requires a letter and drawing from an architect.) 7 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

you should get a structural engineer to do this instead of an architect. it will be cheaper. ours cost $2K with the filing fee in nyc and we did a big reno. [ Reply | More ]

Okay, so if the town just requires an architect's letter, and we can get the letter for $200, that's a good deal? (Contractor's wife is an architect. She won't charge us for the drawing, and instead of her "usual" $600 for a letter she'll only charge us $200...) We're just starting on this renovation, and it's our first foray into stuff like this. ^^^ btw the town should have the blueprint for your house on file. that will save you $$ bc. you won't have to recreate a new "existing" drawing. [ Reply | More ]

I'm not in BR, but I'm 9mi east of there. I rarely use 78 or 24...I use smaller local roads. I know I'm not specifically addressing your 287 issue, though. (I think in 2 years I've been on 287 one time) [ Reply | More ]

I've been out to Bridgewater Commons twice...I'm coming from Berkeley Heights, though. I took 22 straight there. I guess from BR, though, you just need to go south, with 287 being a straight shot, right? [ Reply | More ]
