I was asked off an account at my company in my last job (very big name) The senior person who initiated it at the client said that "She always says yes" as the reason. This relationship was so big I never took a step w/o direction from my managemen - yet they did not defend me and let me take the fall. 30 days later they offered me a package. I think about this frequently and don't know how to get rid of the sense of failure I have. When I was (for all intents and purposes) fired I had the highest rating in their stupid evaluation system. I've retired since with my 3rd dc after 20 yrs of f/t work. How do I get rid of this "hangover"? Start something new? wwyd? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I like the answer you gave to your own question. Find a new "job"/work--maybe something you've always wanted to do--start a small consulting firm, open a small business, etc. [ Reply | More ]

I know, I need to stop feeling so sorry for myself and create a new history. [ Reply | More ]

I think you need to remember that you are a human. I think you should accept the wrong things you may have done and know that you learned from them, and just move on. I can imagine this would be really hard, but most successful people have had a huge failure at one point. Try to use it as a springboard to your next success. (Sorry to sound so Pollyanna, but I really want you to not let this be such a defining moment in your life.) GL! [ Reply | More ]

thanks. After all the hand wringing I've done I've come to the same conclusion - most successful people have had a huge failure. I just wish the thought would stick! I wake up at 5 a.m. sometimes reliving the humiliation. I need to pave over this with another experience - and fast. Thank you! [ Reply | More ]

Try the book "What Happy People Know." I saw a therapist about my anxiety and perfectionism and this book really helped. Hang in there! [ Reply | More ]

this sounds really difficult. i think you should go and talk to someone (like a therapist) about this. nothing you "do" will make you feel better, you have to talk through your feelings and you will get past it. GL! [ Reply | More ]

OP: I'll be ridiculed and flamed but you guys are great and the best of UB. I should have posted about this a long time ago but I lacked the courage. (Can you believe it - how lame!) Thank you [ Reply | More ]

wow - i just went thru this YESTERDAY. Not exactly the same but after 5 yrs I was terminated -- mainly over huge personality conflict with owner/boss and major difference of opinion of strategy but she's trying to say that it was my clients who didn't see me as the "leader" -- I feel like a failure but in my heart I know its because my boss and I didn't like eachother and its not my work. I'm trying to get over it....its weird to all of a sudden not have my job (haven't done anything yet to find a new one) [ Reply | More ]

Well don't make my mistake - try something new right away. I marinated in my "failure" and having had a new baby in my 40's did slow me down in finding something new. I know what I have to do and you should do the same thing. Go on to new successes - best of luck! [ Reply | More ]
