Long-shot, but anyone happen to know about how much the fee would be for an architect's letter verifying that a particular wall is non-load-bearing? (Doing bathroom remodeling without an architect, leaving general footprint as-is, moving a small wall. Town requires a letter and drawing from an architect.) [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

No :( We moved in in 2006. Previous owners moved in in 1973. House was built in '54. [ Reply | More ]

you should get a structural engineer to do this instead of an architect. it will be cheaper. ours cost $2K with the filing fee in nyc and we did a big reno. [ Reply | More ]

Okay, so if the town just requires an architect's letter, and we can get the letter for $200, that's a good deal? (Contractor's wife is an architect. She won't charge us for the drawing, and instead of her "usual" $600 for a letter she'll only charge us $200...) We're just starting on this renovation, and it's our first foray into stuff like this. ^^^ btw the town should have the blueprint for your house on file. that will save you $$ bc. you won't have to recreate a new "existing" drawing. [ Reply | More ]
